Is this job info correct?

We're Hiring: Junior Grant Writer Development Department | Full-Time | Spokane, WA This is an on-site position in Spokane, WA Potentially a hybrid position once training is complete Schedule: Full-Time, M–F ( Occasional evenings/weekends) Turn Words Into Homes Family Promise of Spokane exists to end family homelessness — and every dollar we raise starts with a story well told. We're looking for a Junior Grant Writer who wants to learn the craft of grant writing from the ground up, with real mentorship, a real growth path, and real impact from day one. This is a developmental role: no perfect résumé of grant wins required. What we need is a sharp writer, a curious researcher, and someone who genuinely cares about the families behind every proposal. You'll spend about 80% of your time researching and drafting grant proposals — with structured coaching from our Development Director and an experienced grant writer — and 20% of your time helping our Development team connect with donors, welcome new supporters, and bring our fundraising events to life. What You'll Do Research and identify foundation, corporate, and government grant opportunities aligned with our programs. Draft compelling grant proposals and letters of inquiry for small-to-mid dollar opportunities ($10,000–$50,000). Working across departments to gather supporting grant materials and compile budgets, attachments, and supporting materials so every submission is complete and on time. Keep our grant calendar humming — tracking deadlines, funder reports, and stewardship touchpoints. Help draft compliance and impact reports that show funders exactly how their investment changes lives. Follow a defined coaching plan toward writing independent, large-scale grant proposals within your first year. Top of funnel, introducing donors to their assigned development coordinator and off-boarding donors as needed. Support donor and community events (including our signature Ungala!), and help welcome new donors into the FPS family. What You Bring A bachelor's degree in English, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field — or equivalent experience. Strong writing skills and the confidence to write persuasively under a deadline. Curiosity, organization, and the ability to juggle multiple deadlines without dropping a thread. A genuine desire to build a career in nonprofit grant writing — not just check a box. Comfort taking coaching feedback and turning it into better work, every time. Preferred (not required): prior writing experience from a class, internship, or volunteer role; familiarity with nonprofit fundraising concepts; comfort with Microsoft Office/Google Workspace. Why Family Promise of Spokane This isn't just a writing job — it's a front-row seat to the work of ending family homelessness in our community, built on values we live every day: Being Radically Empathetic: we step into someone else’s shoes without judgment and meet people with dignity, humility, and deep listening. Being Collaborative Stewards: we don’t just react — we design, take smart risks, use data and feedback, and always ask how to do it better. Being Curiously Accountable: we honor every dollar, every volunteer, and every partner by working together with trust, transparency, and accountability. Being Intentional Innovators: we ask questions, seek to understand, and own our impact — good or bad — and learn out loud. Being Compassionately Competitive: we care deeply and compete to lead, innovate, and deliver better outcomes, driven by purpose and love. Grow With Us We built this role because we believe great grant writers are made, not just hired. You'll get hands-on mentorship from day one, defined milestones (like writing your first independent proposal by month four), and a clear runway toward owning larger, more complex grants within 6–18 months. Your growth is part of the job description — not an afterthought. The Details Full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position based at our Spokane administrative office, with occasional time at program sites and donor/community events. Valid WA driver's license and insurable driving record required for occasional travel to funder and donor meetings. Background check required, consistent with our duty of care to the families and children we serve. Access to Employee Assistance Program (EAP) resources and supervisor support — we know this work can be emotionally meaningful, and we support our team accordingly. Ready to help write the next chapter for families in our community? Apply today at familypromiseofspokane.org/careers Family Promise of Spokane is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.
