We serve a population of nearly 6 million people in west-central Florida as directed by state law. Join our Data Collection Bureau Join our team and play a key leadership role in advancing the District’s mission of protecting water resources, minimizing flood risks, restoring natural systems, and ensuring a sustainable water supply. This position oversees the daily operations of a highly skilled team of eight professional survey staff, guiding the successful delivery of survey projects that support the District’s core objectives. In partnership with the Mapping & GIS Section Manager, this role contributes to critical functions such as staff hiring, supervision, coaching, and professional development. The ideal candidate will excel in project management, succession planning, workflow documentation, and cross‑training, while ensuring compliance with professional surveying standards and overseeing the signing and sealing of essential documents. The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance. Essential Functions Supervise surveying and mapping activities of four (4) field staff and four (4) office staff. This includes coordinating the work with District staff as needed. Responsible for completing performance appraisals for all direct report staff. Assists the Mapping & GIS Section Manager with hiring, supervision, coaching, and staff development. Manages survey projects that support the District’s core missions, including water resource protection, flood control, restoration, and water supply. Leads project management activities, succession planning, cross‑training, workflow documentation, and development of training plans. Perform research, planning & developing scope of services, execute and manage surveying & mapping work, produce final deliverables. Provide professional land surveying data and reports. Review staff and consultant conducted surveys, GIS, and photogrammetric products to ensure that products meet the technical standards. Certify surveys and maps as a Florida registered Professional Surveyor and Mapper. Provide expert witness testimony on land surveying and mapping matters. Maintain effective business relationships with subject matter experts throughout the District as well as with technical representatives from external partners associated with a project. Responsible for budget development and ensuring compliance with professional surveying standards. Signs and seals pertinent documents while supporting District objectives. Required Credentials for Land Survey Supervisor Land Survey Supervisor 2 Bachelors degree (or higher) in Geomatics or related field Six (6) years related work experience in survey and mapping related work experience (equivalent combination of education and experience is accepted) Two (2) years of supervisory experience Professional Surveyor and Mapper with the Florida Board of Professional Surveyors and Mappers Valid driver’s license Land Survey Supervisor 3 Masters degree (or higher) in Geomatics or related field Eight (8) years related work experience in survey and mapping related work experience (equivalent combination of education and experience is accepted) Four (4) years of supervisory experience Professional Surveyor and Mapper with the Florida Board of Professional Surveyors and Mappers Valid driver’s license Preferred Credentials for Land Survey Supervisor Experience with AutoCAD or Civil 3D, ArcGIS, Leica Infinity, and Trimble Business Center.
