We are expanding our regulatory and compliance capabilities as part of our growth across Europe and are seeking a highly experienced Managing Director (AML) to lead our compliance and regulatory strategy.

Role Overview

The Managing Director (AML) will be responsible for leading the company’s overall AML and compliance function, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, including MiCA, and supporting the company’s licensing strategy.

This is a senior leadership role with full ownership over compliance, financial crime risk, and regulatory engagement. You will work closely with executive leadership to define and implement the company’s compliance strategy, while building and overseeing a strong AML framework across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead and oversee the company’s AML and compliance strategy
  • Define and implement a scalable compliance framework aligned with business growth
  • Act as a key member of the leadership team on regulatory and risk matters

Regulatory & Licensing

  • Lead interactions with regulators and oversee licensing processes (including MiCA)
  • Ensure the company maintains full compliance with applicable regulations
  • Oversee regulatory reporting and compliance obligations

AML & Risk Oversight

  • Oversee AML/CFT frameworks, policies, and controls across the organisation
  • Supervise the MLRO function and ensure effective execution of AML responsibilities
  • Identify and manage financial crime risks at a strategic level

Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with legal, risk, product, and operations teams
  • Advise senior management and executives on compliance and regulatory matters
  • Represent the company in external regulatory and compliance discussions

  • Board-Level Accountability
  • Serve as the ultimate responsible officer for AML/CTPF and Sanctions compliance at the Board level

  • Regulatory Liaison
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the Bank of Latvia, the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), and other competent authorities.

  • Strategic Reporting
  • Ensure full compliance and timely delivery of all AML/CTPF and Sanctions reporting obligations to supervisory bodies.

  • Framework Alignment
  • Develop and maintain the organization’s AML/CTPF strategy in strict accordance with EU and Latvian financial regulations


  • Requirements

    • Minimum 5+ years of experience in AML / Compliance / Financial Crime roles
    • Proven leadership experience in regulated financial environments
    • Strong understanding of AML/KYC frameworks and regulatory requirements
    • Experience within FinTech, Crypto, Payments, or Financial Services
    • Familiarity with MICA regulation or EU regulatory environments
    • Experience working with regulators and managing licensing processes
    • Strong commercial understanding alongside regulatory expertise
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
    • Fluent English at a very high level (written and spoken)
    • Native-level Latvian
    • Strong legal background or proven experience working within regulatory and legal frameworks
    • Education: Academic degree in Law, Business, Finance, or a related field
    • Professional Certification: Strongly preferred certifications such as CAMS, ICA, or equivalent international AML credentials.
    • Local Regulatory Expertise: Proven experience in managing AML/CTPF, sanctions compliance, and risk reporting within the Latvian and EU contexts.
    • Senior Leadership Experience: Previous track record as an MLRO, Head of Compliance, or Risk Director with Board-level accountability.
    • Reputation: Must possess an irreproachable professional reputation and meet "Fit and Proper" regulatory standards

  • Nice to Have

    • Experience with CASP / VASP licensing
    • Background in crypto or digital asset environments
    • Experience in high-growth startups or fintech scale-ups
    • Experience working across multiple jurisdictions
