Lead Application Security Engineer | First Security Hire | Remote US/Canada | $220K–$320K + Equity
I’m partnering with a high-growth, venture-backed Data & AI infrastructure company to hire their first dedicated security engineer. A genuinely greenfield opportunity to define and build application security from the ground up.
The company pioneered the Composable Customer Data Platform (CDP), enabling businesses to activate data directly from their existing cloud data warehouses rather than relying on traditional, rigid CDP infrastructure. More recently, they’ve expanded into AI Decisioning, using AI agents to help enterprises personalize customer interactions at scale.
They’ve raised $320M in total funding and are backed by several leading venture and growth investors.
The Opportunity
This person will become the first dedicated security hire and take end-to-end ownership of application security as the engineering organization scales from roughly 70 to 140+ engineers.
This isn’t a governance-heavy or checklist-driven security position. It’s a hands-on engineering role where you’ll spend time working with the codebase, architecture and product engineering teams to identify and solve high-impact security problems.
You’ll tackle challenges including:
🔹 Multi-tenant isolation across a platform running ~1M data syncs per day and ingesting 100K+ events/sec
🔹 Designing sophisticated authorization & access-control models for multi-team and multi-brand environments
🔹 Security architecture, threat modeling & product hardening
🔹 Securing high-throughput, internet-facing APIs and improving rate limiting and abuse detection
🔹 Designing and improving compute isolation
🔹 Securing a multi-region, multi-cloud architecture spanning AWS, Azure & GCP
🔹 Supporting data residency and privacy requirements for a global customer base
What They’re Looking For
Ideally, you’ve previously been one of the first 1–3 security hires at a SaaS or data infrastructure company and have experience building security capabilities rather than simply operating an established program.
You should be comfortable reading application code, threat modeling distributed systems and shipping production fixes, with strong experience across areas such as multi-tenant security, authorization, cloud security and data infrastructure.
For an experienced Application Security / Product Security Engineer who wants the autonomy to build a security function from the ground up while staying deeply technical, this is a standout opportunity.
