Honeywell Aerospace Materials Engineering is seeking a Lead Materials Engineer (Mechanical Design) to provide technical leadership. This position will be based out of the Torrance facility and support both local design and manufacturing activities as well as global Aero materials and process engineering activities and supplier support. This is a challenging, multi-dimensional role that requires the individual to multitask across several concurrent task assignments. This role will be a technical leadership role primarily performing problem resolution activities within supply chain, programs, engineering and external suppliers where the candidate will be expected to act as the Materials Subject Matter Expert in Welding, metal joining, and metallurgy during interactions with internal/external customers, Program Managers, Suppliers, Design and ISC as a recognized technical expert in Metallurgical disciplines. Key Responsibilities: Establish regular partnership with Materials Engineering management on technical matters that ensures management is aware of and understands significant technical projects, key risks and mitigations to the projects, and significant technical results. Perform as a role model technical leader that will foster the Materials Engineering organization Providing technical and behavioral training, coaching, and mentoring to develop employees’ abilities to execute technical tasks and projects. Teaches others how to think about engineering problems and to find solutions; not just advising or giving the answers. Actively participates in all phases of the product lifecycle as a technical lead, including selection of materials & processes, design reviews, production support, and aftermarket support Champions initiatives and projects to provide training and professional growth opportunities for less experienced engineers. Proactively engages other engineers in personal work tasks and meetings with intentional partnership for learning Participation in technical special process group and provides technical support at multiple Honeywell Aerospace sites and suppliers MatEng/Honeywell Aerospace representative in external to Honeywell Aerospace customer and regulatory engagements of high impact matters Develops Aerospace-level engineering processes and guidelines. Must Have : Bachelor in Material Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline Minimum 8 years experience working in materials engineering disciplines. Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with one or multiple Aerospace metallurgical processes, primarily Welding and metal joining, such as brazing Experience performing drawing reviews to ensure customer and internal material and process requirements are properly incorporated into Honeywell Aerospace designs. Recognized industry authority with high impact observable results in Honeywell Aerospace's best interests. Understanding of relevant regulations and business processes enabling rapid Honeywell Aerospace business execution. We Value: Master or Post graduate degree in technical area related to materials engineering disciplines and specifically for welding processes and technology. Knowledge and domain in other metallurgical processes: Castings, Forgings, Heat Treat (HT) or Brazing (BRZ), including metallic Materials Testing. Metallurgy domain – knowledge of materials used for Honeywell Aerospace sites design applications such as Aluminum, Titanium, stainless steels and nickel based alloys . Rapid application of broad knowledge of products, processes, people and materials Widely recognized mastery of metallurgical expertise areas and ability to communicate at any level Proven team and project leadership skills Proven influence at various levels of high impact, high profile decision making Understanding of how materials engineering and adjacent organizations get work done Proficient at making people better through technical training, coaching, and mentoring Owns technical risks of multi-million dollar decisions. Conceptualizes and develops endorsed business solutions resulting in business driven engineering. Has refined demonstrated ability to convey complex technical knowledge and solutions to various levels of management, internal to Honeywell Aerospace and external to Honeywell Aerospace people, and all lower levels of engineering. Routinely relied on as final MatEng approve/reject authority. Ability, capability, and behavior to be fast. Can apply broad competencies to complex situations and rapidly produce recommendations with a compelling rationale which effectively influences rapid decision making. Recognized as specialist within the special process or certifications/credentials such as: Honeywell Aerospace Certifying Agent or Source Certifying Agent (SCA) Understanding and working knowledge of Aerospace Quality systems AS9100 and NADCAP requirements. Assertive and professional Communication skills - verbal and written. The annual base salary range for this position is $143000 - $180000.
