Really Awesome People is recruiting an experienced Lead Microservices and AI Technical Architect to support a major Australian Government business application transformation program.

This is a senior, EL2-equivalent technical leadership role establishing enterprise microservices and event-driven architecture foundations while embedding AI-enabled engineering practices across the software delivery lifecycle.

The opportunity

You will provide technical leadership and architectural authority across:

• Cloud-native microservices and event-driven architectures
• Enterprise AI capabilities, semantic search and machine learning
• AI-enabled software development practices
• DevSecOps, CI/CD and automated testing
• Container platforms such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, AKS, EKS or GKE
• Platform engineering, SRE and observability
• Enterprise integration and reusable architecture patterns
• Engineering governance, capability uplift and knowledge transfer

We are looking for someone who can operate at both the strategic and technical levels—setting architectural direction, influencing senior stakeholders and working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to turn complex requirements into practical technology outcomes.

Contract details

• Initial contract: 12 months
• Extensions: 2 × 12 months
• Expected start: 1 October 2026
• Location: Canberra or remote within Australia
• Flexible/hybrid working arrangements
• Occasional travel may be required
• Up to 40 hours per week
• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain Baseline clearance required

The department will consider interstate candidates working remotely and can sponsor the successful candidate for a Baseline clearance.
