Lead Product Development Engineer - MedTech - Pulso Technology Help transform how cardiovascular technologies are developed and validated — while helping reduce reliance on animal testing. Future Co-Founder | From R&D to Industrialization | Cardiovascular In Vitro Simulation | Mons, Belgium The opportunity Pulso is not hiring an engineer to fill a seat — we're looking for the person who will help build the company itself . As THE first engineer, you won't inherit a team, a process, or a playbook. You'll create them. This is a role for someone who wants more than a job description: real ownership, direct exposure to the founder and clients, and a genuine path toward a co-founder-level position as Pulso scales. If you're energized by ambiguity, enjoy building things with your own hands, and want your decisions to visibly shape a product and a company — this is built for you. About Pulso Pulso is a Belgian MedTech startup (a spin-off from the University of Mons, launched in late 2025) developing in vitro cardiovascular simulation platforms for medical device manufacturers, hospitals, and research centers. The systems replicate real cardiovascular conditions — flow, pressure, valve dynamics — to accelerate the development, evaluation, and validation of medical technologies, including training platforms for cardiologists that currently rely heavily on animal testing. We're already generating revenue, have delivered 15+ projects, operate across several European markets (Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, France, the UK), and are entering a major growth phase. What you'll actually do Own technical development end-to-end : design, prototype, assemble, test, and continuously improve Pulso's products and client-specific setups. Design and run in vitro test campaigns : define simulation protocols (flow, pressure, valve dynamics), replicate target physiological conditions, and validate tested devices against rigorous technical and clinical criteria. Build the engineering function from scratch : put in place the methods, documentation, planning, and workflows that don't exist yet — CAD/version control, BOM management, test protocols, issue tracking. Run technical projects autonomously : turn requirements into action, coordinate suppliers and partners, anticipate risks, and make the corrective calls needed to deliver. Challenge and improve, proactively : bring your own engineering point of view to Pulso's products and ways of working — we're not looking for someone who waits to be told what to do. Bridge engineering and the field : translate client and clinical needs into technical solutions, and represent Pulso in client meetings, demos, hospital visits, and cardiovascular congresses. Your first big objectives Industrialize the current valve simulators — turn prototypes and custom builds into robust, reproducible products (design, BOM, assembly procedures, validation protocols, quality criteria). Develop the next generation of cardiovascular simulators — from concept and CAD through prototyping, in vitro testing, and delivery. Build a reliable supplier and production ecosystem — structure suppliers, purchasing, manufacturing partners, component choices, and inventory as volumes grow. Bring the Pulso Pump to industrial product maturity — strengthen the mechanical and electromechanical design, improve robustness and maintainability, structure the software/UI layer, and establish a clear approach to validation and failure-mode risk management. Make the Pulso Pump commercially scalable — define a controlled product configuration, documentation, testing, and release process so every unit shipped is consistent, supportable, and client-ready — not treated as an engineer's prototype. Build the engineering system behind the products — practical CAD/versioning, BOM, test protocols, technical documentation, issue tracking, and corrective actions, so technical knowledge doesn't live in one person's head. Who we're looking for A degree in mechanical, electromechanical, biomedical engineering, or an equivalent field. A first R&D or hands-on mechanical engineering experience, ideally in the MedTech sector is recommended — this can be your first hands-on R&D or industrialization role , as long as it's a real one. What matters more than years is what you've built so far. Experience taking a physical product from CAD/prototype through testing, manufacturing, or market launch is a strong plus. A genuine entrepreneurial streak : you like building from scratch, you can structure processes that don't exist yet, make decisions under ambiguity, and take on responsibility well beyond a standard job description. Prior startup, co-founder, side-project, or high-ownership experience in a small structure is a real asset. Comfortable in a very small, fast-moving environment with high autonomy, ambiguity, and real stakes — this is not a 9-to-5 job. Skills that matter Strong mechanical/3D design skills; proficiency with Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or equivalent. Field prototyping, 3D printing, assembly, mechanical testing and troubleshooting — a genuine "builder" mindset, hands-on with your own equipment. Comfortable coordinating suppliers, managing BOMs, revisions, technical documentation, test plans, and acceptance criteria. Working knowledge of electromechanical integration; software skills (Python, C/C++, Arduino) are a strong plus. Fluid mechanics / experimental test-bench experience (flow loops, sensors, pressure, synchronized acquisition, test reproducibility) is highly relevant to what we do. Strong communication skills and proficiency in English with clients, clinicians, and technical partners; working French is very helpful for day-to-day life in Belgium. Why join Pulso Become employee #1 and have a direct, visible impact on how the company and its technology are built. Take real ownership of the technical side of a revenue-generating MedTech startup with a solid commercial pipeline. Work directly with the founder, in a flexible environment where your ideas and decisions have immediate impact. Get direct exposure to clients, clinicians, hospitals, and international cardiovascular congresses. Grow with the company: your scope and leadership will expand as Pulso scales — with a genuine track toward a co-founder-level role . Competitive salary, benefits, and stock options . Compensation & benefits Salary : €4,000 – €5,000 gross/month, depending on experience and overall package. Stock options , reflecting the level of ownership we're looking for in this role. Meal vouchers (chèques-repas) and eco-vouchers. Home-office allowance. Company laptop and phone provided. Occasional travel for client visits, hospital sessions, demos, and congresses in Belgium and abroad. Recruitment process Screening of your CV by Adaequatio Services Phone interview — short introductory conversation about the role, your background, and mutual fit. Interview with the founder — an in-depth discussion of your technical experience, your level of ownership, your working style, and your motivation. Practical exercise — an in-person technical exercise, followed by a discussion with the founder and a Pulso Board member. Reference check — final verification before decision.
