Role Overview:

We are hiring for one of our clients, seeking a Junior Mainframe Developer (COBOL) to work on a contract basis. The role involves maintaining and enhancing legacy mainframe systems critical to core business operations. Candidates will assist in debugging, testing, and implementing COBOL programs with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in writing, testing, and debugging COBOL programs on z/OS systems.

• Collaborate with senior developers to analyze and resolve defects in existing mainframe applications.

• Perform code reviews and ensure compliance with coding standards and best practices.

• Participate in system migrations and upgrades to modernize legacy infrastructure.

• Document technical specifications, changes, and procedures for team reference.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Proficiency in COBOL programming language for mainframe environments.

• Experience with JCL (Job Control Language) and ISPF (Interactive System Productivity Facility).

• Familiarity with DB2 or IMS database systems for data processing.

• Understanding of CICS (Customer Information Control System) transaction processing.

• Basic knowledge of mainframe utilities such as File-AID, Xpediter, or Abend-AID.

• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and system documentation.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for troubleshooting issues.

• Experience with version control tools like Endevor or Serena Changeman.
