Managed Services – Automation Leader CFGI, founded in 2000, is a dynamic and fast-growing financial consulting firm serving as a trusted partner to CFOs and their organizations. We help clients tackle complex challenges across accounting, FP&A, tax, cybersecurity, technology, and business transformation. We combine deep technical expertise with a hands-on, entrepreneurial approach to help leading companies move forward with confidence. CFGI Managed Services provides clients with long-term delivery support across accounting, FP&A, tax, cybersecurity, and other critical business functions. A key component of this delivery model is PRISM, CFGI’s system used by client teams throughout multi-year managed services engagements. We are seeking an Automation Leader to lead the engineering team responsible for turning each client’s month-end close into a repeatable, controlled, and increasingly automated pipeline. This leader will work closely with client accounting teams and CFGI delivery teams to understand how each close actually operates, translate those requirements into reliable automation, and progressively convert client-specific solutions into reusable platform capabilities. A critical measure of success for this role is maintaining a disciplined architecture in which each new client implementation becomes more scalable and efficient than the last. What you might expect: Lead the engineers building per-client month-end close automations, including scoping, sequencing, and delivering pipelines from ERP extraction through transformation and ultimately posted journal entries. Own the delivery relationship with the accounting teams supporting each engagement, developing a detailed understanding of each client’s close requirements, workpapers, accounting processes, and definition of a correct output. Maintain the architectural boundary between the CFGI platform and client-specific automation packages, keeping extraction, authentication, staging, and journal-entry posting in Elixir while limiting Python to the SQLMesh transformation layer. Protect that architecture under delivery pressure and evaluate implementation decisions based on long-term maintainability, scalability, and reuse rather than short-term convenience. Drive the progression from bespoke client automation to reusable platform capability by identifying client-specific workflows that can become configurable, built-in workflows available to future engagements. Establish and maintain controls over automation outputs before anything posts to a client ledger, including tie-outs, zero-delta checks, reconciliations, exception handling, and human review and approval gates. Lead the development and ongoing evolution of the ms-automations per-client packages, including NetSuite and QuickBooks Online implementations, SQLMesh transformation trees, and the Parquet seam connecting client automations to the broader platform. Oversee the vendoring path into cfgi-platform and the workflow built-ins that allow pipelines to operate as managed-services deliverables with defined review and approval steps. Guide ERP integration development, including NetSuite through SuiteQL and QuickBooks Online, while maintaining behavior and mock seams that allow integrations to be tested without live client credentials. Oversee DuckDB and SQLMesh transformation pipelines and the production of accounting deliverables such as workpapers and journal-entry files. Mentor and manage automation engineers, establish engineering standards, review technical decisions, and develop the team’s capabilities. Manage a roadmap across multiple concurrent client engagements while balancing client delivery commitments, platform development, technical debt, and opportunities for reusable automation. Partner closely with CFGI Managed Services, accounting, technology, and product stakeholders to ensure automation supports both client requirements and the long-term scalability of the Managed Services platform. What you must have: 15+ years of professional experience in consulting, advisory, or a related professional services environment, with progressive leadership responsibility. Experience leading and developing a small engineering or automation team while managing multiple concurrent client or customer-facing deliveries. Experience designing, building, and delivering SQL-based data transformation, data-pipeline, or financial-process automation solutions in production environments. What sets you apart: Experience translating complex client accounting, finance, or operational requirements into reliable automated workflows and production data pipelines. Experience designing controls around automated financial processes, including reconciliations, tie-outs, validation checks, exception management, and human review or approval gates. Experience maintaining disciplined architectural boundaries across systems, services, programming languages, or integration layers while delivering against client deadlines. Experience developing ERP integrations or automations involving extraction, authentication, staging, transformation, and downstream transaction or journal-entry processing. Experience working directly with accounting or finance teams to understand month-end close processes, journal entries, workpapers, reconciliations, and financial-data requirements. Experience converting bespoke client implementations into configurable, reusable platform capabilities, standardized workflows, or product features. Experience managing a technical roadmap across multiple implementations while balancing immediate delivery requirements with platform scalability and maintainability. Experience mentoring engineers, reviewing technical design decisions, and establishing development, testing, and delivery standards. Nice to have: Experience with Elixir and Python in production environments. Experience with SQLMesh, dbt, or comparable data-transformation frameworks. Experience with NetSuite integrations, including SuiteQL. Experience with QuickBooks Online integrations. Experience using DuckDB, Parquet, or similar analytical data-processing and interchange technologies. Experience designing testable ERP integrations using mocks, behaviors, or comparable abstraction patterns that reduce dependency on live client credentials. Experience working directly in month-end close, controllership, accounting advisory, audit, or another environment requiring an understanding of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial close controls. Who thrives here: You are comfortable operating at the intersection of engineering, accounting, and client delivery. You have the judgment to distinguish a fast implementation from a sustainable one and are willing to protect important architectural boundaries when deadlines create pressure to compromise them. You are highly organized and comfortable managing multiple client implementations and technical priorities simultaneously. You communicate effectively with engineers, accountants, client-delivery teams, and other nontechnical stakeholders. You take ownership of correctness, particularly when automation ultimately affects a client’s books and records. You naturally look for patterns across client engagements and continually ask how one-off work can become a reusable capability. You are entrepreneurial, pragmatic, adaptable, and committed to building both strong client outcomes and a progressively more scalable Managed Services platform.
