Job Title: Manager, Information Technology (IT) Operations Location: Mainly remote. Must be based in Ontario. Travel will be required to various campuses as per business/project needs Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Projects with afterhours and weekend support will be required Start Date: Immediate Compensation: $110,000 annually The Opportunity: The Manager of IT Operations effectively combines strong diagnosis capabilities, practical experience, and an ability to identify and mitigate weaknesses in a complex IT infrastructure. This person is responsible for ensuring that our IT infrastructure is well designed, provisioned, and maintained to ensure the success of our employees and students, and to enable the organization to respond positively to business opportunities. T his is a role that will lead from the front, providing exemplary technical aptitude and support to the organization, while simultaneously leading our growing IT Operations team. Through the sharing of experiences, insights, and ideas, this role will also contribute to the overall direction and steering of the IT department. What you'll be doing: Support Management : Work directly with employees and students as a Tier 3 escalation point, handling the most challenging issues. Act as a senior point of contact for the IT Support team, providing guidance, mentorship, and hands-on leadership. Work with the Technical Support Team Managers to coordinate cross-team support efforts, and to develop growth opportunities within the IT department. Leverage the input from the Support team to identify architectural and governance gaps and develop plans to remediate. Participate in the forecast of funds needed for employees, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitors and approve team expenditures. Personnel Management : Select, train, motivate, and evaluate assigned personnel; provide or coordinate employee training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures. Provide timely reports to the Director of Information Technology and Facilities on team health and productivity. Facilities Management : Recognize and report facilities-related issues (for example, power and data issues) to the Facilities team and work collaboratively with them to resolve them. Infrastructure Management : Lead in the development of IT Operations best practices, threat recognition and remediation, and proactive maintenance to ensure our risk exposure is as low as possible. Review infrastructure change plans, ensuring that the real and potentially affected systems are suitably protected from negative outcomes. Implement and manage an effective change management process. Review change outcomes and completed tasks for anomalous outcomes. Work with the Director of Information Technology and Facilities and the IT Operations team to develop growth and maintenance plans for the company infrastructure. Lead IT Operations in developing annual and quarterly goals that align infrastructure development with overall business objectives and priorities. Policies & Procedures : Work with the Director and the College Policy Committee to identify gaps in IT policies and procedures and coordinates the authoring of new policy and procedure accordingly. Review and implement improvements to existing policies and procedures, ensuring that we’re leveraging emerging best practices and current priorities. Identifiy gaps in our employees’ and students’ ability to adhere to the policies and develops training plans, leveraging individuals across the entire IT team to implement those plans. What you bring to the position: Post-secondary education/college diploma in Information Technology. 5+ years of leadership experience in Information Technology Operations, and management experience in a comparable or larger business environment. Excellent diagnostic skills. Must be able to envision complex situations and be able to apply diagnostic techniques to locate root problems, and to strategize on effective remediation strategies. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft infrastructure and desktop technologies including: o The full stack of Microsoft’s infrastructure software, including messaging and communications, server virtualization, software patching and updating, database solutions, and Microsoft desktop applications. Excellent knowledge of networking fundamentals including: o Network routing configuration, management, optimization. o Wired and wireless data transfer fundamentals (802.11a/b/g/n, VLAN, Switch Management). o Firewall and proxy configuration and management. A reliable vehicle, valid provincial driver’s license. Support of the various campuses will require travel to our locations. This position is for an existing vacancy.
