Department: Legal AI & Technology Location: Glasgow Role: Manager, Legal AI & Technology Contract : Full time, Permanent Key responsibilities Stakeholder engagement and requirements gathering Engage with lawyers across practice groups, seniority levels and geographies to understand legal, operational and client service challenges that may be addressed through technology. Work with lawyers to apply legal technology to real legal workflows, helping translate practical legal needs into clear requirements and implementation approaches. Help distinguish between genuine business needs and desirable features, focusing on solving defined problems rather than seeking opportunities to deploy technology for its own sake. Document legal and operational processes clearly, including current-state workflows, pain points, requirements, proposed future-state processes and implementation notes. Legal technology portfolio and solution alignment Assess whether lawyer requirements can be met through the firm’s existing legal technology portfolio and help match teams to approved tools wherever possible. Assist with the ongoing review and assessment of the firm’s existing legal technology portfolio, helping evaluate usage, effectiveness, gaps, duplication and opportunities to improve how tools are positioned, governed and adopted across the business. Support the application of the firm’s legal technology, AI and IT strategies in day-to-day work, ensuring proposed solutions are aligned with governance, risk and business priorities. Identify unmet legal technology requirements and assist with scoping new opportunities, pilots or projects where existing solutions do not address the business need. Solution design, configuration and implementation support Build and configure Copilot agents and other practical AI-enabled solutions, including within SharePoint and Microsoft Agent Builder. Act as a voice of the business in bespoke development work, helping ensure that solutions reflect legal practice requirements and user experience considerations. Adoption, demonstrations and knowledge sharing Demonstrate legal technology applications to lawyers and business teams, explaining functionality, appropriate use cases, benefits and limitations in clear, practical terms. Keep informed about developments and opportunities in legal technology, legal AI and the wider legal innovation market, and share relevant insights, learnings and updates with the team to support continuous improvement and informed decision-making. Assist with the production, maintenance and continuous improvement of internal communications, guidance materials and intranet content relating to the firm’s legal technology portfolio, ensuring information is accurate, accessible, up to date and tailored to the needs of lawyers and business teams. Business case, vendor and project support Assist with the drafting of business cases for new technology, including problem statements, expected benefits, adoption considerations, risks and dependencies. Support vendor management activity, including engagement with application providers, preparation for demonstrations, feedback capture and follow-up actions. Governance, risk and cross-functional collaboration Identify, document and escalate risks arising from the use of legal technology and AI, including issues relating to confidentiality, data protection, information security, professional obligations and output validation. Work collaboratively with colleagues across Risk, Information Security, IT, Finance, HR, Business Services and other functions to support coordinated delivery of legal technology initiatives. Assist partners, lawyers and Business Development teams with client-facing responses about the firm’s use of AI and legal technology, ensuring descriptions of tools, use cases, governance, safeguards and benefits are clear, accurate and appropriately tailored to the client request. Skills and experience Experience of, or strong interest in, legal technology, AI, automation or digital transformation within a legal or professional services environment. Familiarity with legal work and legal practice, whether through a fee-earning legal background, legal operations, legal project delivery or other direct exposure to lawyers and legal workflows. Ability to speak confidently and credibly with lawyers at all levels, from junior lawyers to partners, and to adapt communication style for different audiences and jurisdictions. Good analytical skills, with the ability to understand legal and operational problems, separate needs from wants and translate requirements into practical actions. Comfort working with Microsoft 365 tools, SharePoint and AI-enabled tools, with the aptitude to learn new platforms and support their adoption. Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear process notes, requirements documents, business case input, guidance materials and meeting summaries. Awareness of the risks associated with legal technology and AI, including the need for human oversight, output checking, confidentiality, information security and responsible use. Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work collaboratively with legal teams, technology teams and business services functions. Organised, proactive and comfortable managing multiple workstreams, follow-ups and stakeholder conversations in parallel. Comfortable working remotely and willing to work across time zones as part of a global team. Candidate profile This role would particularly suit someone with a fee-earning legal background who has developed an interest in legal technology through project work, innovation initiatives or hands-on experience of improving legal delivery. The successful candidate does not need to have worked as a legal technologist before, but should be curious, practical, comfortable with lawyers and able to combine an understanding of legal practice with an enthusiasm for technology-enabled change. This role will require a degree of gravitas to support our partners and lawyers through change.
