Manager, People & Culture Location: Chicago, IL (four days a week in office) Department: People & Culture Reports to: CEO About the Role We're looking for a Manager, People & Culture to join our team and own the day-to-day generalist work that keeps our organization running smoothly. This role covers the full range of HR generalist responsibilities — from employee relations and total rewards to policy and program support — stretching up to manager-level guidance and coaching. You'll need strong, hands-on knowledge of both US and Canada employment practices, as this role supports employees across both countries. This is a great opportunity for an experienced HR generalist ready to take ownership of core HR operations and partner closely with managers and executives. What You'll Do: Serve as a trusted HR point of contact for employees and managers, handling day-to-day HR needs Advise and coach managers on performance management, employee relations, and team dynamics Support the full employee lifecycle: onboarding, role changes, performance review cycles, promotions, and offboarding Interpret and apply HR policies consistently across US and Canada employee populations Ensure compliance with US and Canadian employment laws and regulations in daily HR practices Own our total rewards program including US and Canadian benefits, 401(k) and GRRSP programs, as well as managing payroll in partnership with the finance team Manage and administer 401(k) plans and Canadian retirement/pension plans, along with related employee benefits (including open enrolment) Manage full-cycle recruitment from sourcing and screening through offer and onboarding Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve employee issues Maintain and improve HR processes, documentation, and employee records What We're Looking For 5+ years of experience in an HR Generalist or similar role, ideally with exposure up to upper manager-level/executive support Experience in BambooHR, JustWorks, and Notion Solid working knowledge of US and Canadian employment law and HR compliance requirements Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust across all levels of the organization Sound judgment in handling sensitive employee matters with discretion Comfortable operating independently and prioritizing across multiple ongoing employee and executive needs Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience); HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) a plus Compensation: $110,000-$130,000 USD.
