About The Role
Our
Balfour Beatty Highways business has a terrific opportunity for a
Managing Quantity Surveyor to join our
£1.2 billion Lower Thames Crossing project.
The
Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) is one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects. LTC is a new road that will connect
Kent and
Essex through a tunnel beneath the
River Thames and will be the greenest road ever built in the UK - creating six times more green space than road. The reliable new route will almost
double road capacity over the river east of London to
reduce congestion and give millions of people more choice on where they live, work and spend their valuable time.
As a
Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will be tasked to lead a multi-disciplined commercial team of an iconic highways scheme, and be part of the legacy of bringing real impactful change to the interconnectivity of the South-East.
What you'll be doing
- Has a good knowledge of and adheres to requirements around LEAN/digital opportunities.
- Lead commercial and cost management functions for the project, reporting directly to the Senior Commercial Manager.
- Manage subcontract administration for civils and/or utility works and associated packages.
- Monitor costs, valuations, and change control, with a strong focus on interfaces, risk management, and forecasting.
- Collaborate with design, construction, and client teams to identify risks, resolve disputes, and ensure timely approvals with utility companies.
- Provide leadership and mentoring to a team of Quantity Surveyors, ensuring consistent processes and high-quality commercial outputs.
- Support programme delivery by aligning commercial management with technical and construction activities.
- Prepare and present commercial reports, cost/value reconciliations, and risk registers for senior management and client reviews.
Who we're looking for
- BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying, or equivalent experience
- Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards)
- CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person)
- Significant experience in civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
- Strong commercial acumen with excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
- Experience with NEC contracts and robust knowledge of change/claims management.
- Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment
