Maths Excellence Tutor: Middlesbrough Pay: £60 per circle for delivery and preparation. £30 per hour for training. Hours: Flexible. Maths circles will be allocated based on your availability, we expect a minimum of three circles a week where available. Each circle is 2.5 hours work, 1 hour delivery and 1.5 hours preparation. Contract: Worker status, term time only. Fixed term contract until July 2027. Location: Local schools placements offered around Middlesbrough. Travel expenses covered. What we’re looking for: We're looking for people who are passionate about maths and want to help bring positive change to the young people we support. You should have a strong conceptual understanding of mathematics and the enthusiasm to inspire others with it. You should also be highly organised and self-motivated, with the drive to make a real difference. We exist to serve pupils from backgrounds that are under-represented in university mathematics, and believe that we do this better when our team includes people who are from these backgrounds themselves. About Axiom Maths Axiom Maths is a maths education charity on a mission to help every child with the heart and head for maths realise the potential of their power - especially those whose potential is too often held back by disadvantage. Every year 30,000 children who were top performers at the end of primary school don’t go on to get top GCSE grades in maths. We aim to change that by partnering with schools across England and Wales to run fully-funded in-school or online maths circles. Pupils tackle challenging and rewarding maths problems in a supportive social group where the subject is valued. About the role This is an exciting chance to share your passion for maths, challenge young minds and nurture mathematical talent in your local community. As a Maths Excellence Tutor, you will lead weekly extracurricular maths circles sessions with small groups of carefully selected high-attaining pupils at local schools. These aren't ordinary lessons. Axiom Maths is a taught enrichment programme that takes pupils beyond the school curriculum. Pupils tackle challenging and rewarding problems together, lose themselves in mathematical thinking, and leave each session a little more confident in who they are as mathematicians. You will typically lead a minimum of 3 maths circles per week, where available. You will be working with our regional School Partnerships team who will support with the schools you are working in and keep you connected with what is happening across the region. Your schools will have a designated contact who will offer insights and guidance to help your maths circles thrive. You will be provided with training, introductory videos, and curriculum materials for every session, so you can focus on what matters: sparking curiosity and building the next generation of mathematicians. There are no mandatory set hours, but the role is best suited to candidates available between 3:00pm-5pm on at least 3 weekdays. You can indicate any regular unavailability in your application. The duties of this role include Prepare for each session: Watch the introductory video, work through the problems yourself, read the guidance notes and think about how you'll draw the maths out of your pupils. Lead the Axiom Maths curriculum: Lead sessions that spark curiosity, stretch thinking, and challenge and inspire. Build a community of mathematicians: Help pupils see themselves as mathematicians and feel part of a larger network of like-minded peers supporting each other Develop in-school connections: Work closely with in-school staff to tailor your maths circle to their school context and to meet pupil needs Reporting and feedback: • Report weekly on pupils' attendance and share feedback on curriculum resources so we can keep improving them together • Report to schools how your pupils are progressing as mathematicians • Complete mentor surveys to help shape the programme General: • Safeguard and promote the welfare of pupils at all times • Adhere to data protection, confidentiality and IT policies • Attend initial and ongoing training and take an active part in our quality assurance process You should apply if you Belief in the value of our mission and align closely with our culture and values: we put our users first we move with momentum towards excellence we feel high ownership and act with high agency we are one team.
