Pricing mechanical services on a hospital, a data centre or a large industrial build is a different discipline to pricing a fit-out, and this contractor is looking for someone who knows the difference. They are appointing a Mechanical Estimator into a Wolverhampton estimating team with a live pipeline of major building services work.
About the opportunity
An established building services contractor needs an experienced Mechanical Estimator to own tenders on significant projects. You will take a package from tender drawings through take-off, supply chain pricing and risk assessment to a submission that holds up under scrutiny. Expect visibility - your pricing shapes what the business wins and how it delivers.
The role is primarily based at the Wolverhampton office, with hybrid and remote working available for the right person. Applications are welcome from experienced estimators anywhere in the UK.
What you will be doing
• Preparing detailed, competitive mechanical estimates for major building services projects
• Reviewing tender drawings, specifications, schedules and contract documentation
• Completing detailed mechanical quantity take-offs and measurements
• Identifying risks, omissions and discrepancies, and raising RFIs and tender queries
• Obtaining and assessing supplier and subcontractor quotations against specification
• Building tender submissions including assumptions, exclusions, clarifications and qualifications
• Finding value engineering and cost saving opportunities
• Tracking market rates, material costs and subcontractor pricing
• Working alongside commercial, design, procurement and delivery teams
• Supporting tender negotiations and client queries
• Attending tender reviews and handing won projects over cleanly
• Reviewing completed projects against original estimates to sharpen future pricing
What you will need
• Proven experience as a Mechanical Estimator
• Strong mechanical building services knowledge
• Demonstrable experience estimating large-scale projects
• Confident reading mechanical drawings, specifications and construction methodologies
• Detailed take-off and tender preparation experience
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project costs
• Experience dealing with suppliers and subcontractors
• Excellent attention to detail and strong numerical and analytical skills
• Ability to manage your own workload and multiple tender deadlines
• Right to work in the UK without sponsorship
Nice to have
• Sector experience in data centres, healthcare, pharmaceutical, warehousing and logistics, manufacturing or infrastructure
• Background with a major M&E or specialist mechanical contractor
• Amtech, Trimble or similar estimating software
• Mechanical engineering, construction or building services qualifications
Working pattern
Full-time. Wolverhampton office based, with hybrid and remote arrangements considered and agreed around your experience, location and the tender pipeline.
