Medical Coding Specialist (Remote to STL area) 💲 Pay Rate: $28.00/hour 📍 Primarily Remote Opportunity with ability to be in St. Louis, MO once per month. 🕒 Monday-Friday | Flexible Start Time Between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM 📅 6-Month Contract Opportunity Put Your Coding Expertise to Work We are seeking an experienced Medical Coding Specialist to join a dynamic healthcare revenue cycle team. This role is ideal for a certified coding professional with experience in medical appeals, accounts receivable, coding review, and reimbursement analysis. The successful candidate will play a critical role in resolving denied claims, researching payer policies, reviewing clinical documentation, and ensuring accurate coding and reimbursement. What You'll Do Denials & Appeals Management Review and appeal denied claims from commercial and government payers Draft appeal letters and compile supporting documentation Research payer policies, regulations, and reimbursement guidelines Investigate and resolve complex reimbursement issues Coding & Documentation Review Review clinical documentation to ensure accurate code assignment Assign and validate ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and Evaluation & Management (E/M) codes Ensure diagnoses and procedures are properly documented and linked Identify coding opportunities and areas of documentation improvement Revenue Cycle & Accounts Receivable Support Work Epic billing work queues and CRM tasks Review remittance advice for payment accuracy and denials Perform charge corrections as needed Update insurance and demographic information within the billing system Support AR follow-up and collections activities Collaboration & Communication Partner with providers, coding teams, and revenue cycle colleagues to resolve payer issues Provide guidance on medical terminology, coding practices, and policy interpretation Assist with special revenue cycle projects and initiatives Required Qualifications ✅ Certified Procedural Coder (CPC) certification OR RHIT/RHIA certification ✅ Experience in one or more of the following: Medical coding Medical billing Healthcare accounts receivable (AR) Insurance collections Revenue cycle operations Medical appeals and denials management ✅ Strong knowledge of: ICD-10 Coding CPT Coding HCPCS Coding Medical Terminology Insurance Appeals & Reimbursement Processes ✅ Experience using Epic or a comparable healthcare billing platform Preferred Specialty Experience Candidates with experience supporting any of the following specialties are highly encouraged to apply: OB/GYN Pediatrics Physical Therapy Ophthalmology What Makes You Successful The ideal candidate is: Detail-oriented and highly accurate Skilled at analyzing complex payer denials Comfortable researching policies and interpreting guidelines Organized and able to manage multiple priorities A strong communicator who collaborates effectively with clinical and administrative teams Committed to maintaining patient confidentiality and professional standards Work Environment 🏠 Primarily Remote Work from home the majority of the time One on-site team meeting per month Candidates located in Missouri or the surrounding area are strongly preferred to accommodate the monthly in-person collaboration requirement Why You'll Love This Opportunity ⭐ Flexible start times ⭐ Remote work environment ⭐ Meaningful impact on revenue cycle performance and patient care operations ⭐ Collaborative healthcare team culture ⭐ Opportunity to leverage advanced coding and appeals expertise ⭐ Exposure to complex reimbursement and payer resolution work Apply Today If you're a CPC, RHIT, or RHIA-certified professional with experience in medical coding, denials, appeals, accounts receivable, and Epic , we want to hear from you.
