The Office of Rural and Regional Health (ORRH) works in partnership with educational teams across the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and with communities throughout rural and regional Alberta. Together, we support high‑quality medical education for both undergraduate and postgraduate learners, ensuring students gain meaningful experience in diverse clinical environments across the province. The Medical Education Program Administrator plays a vital role in advancing distributed medical education across Alberta. This position provides core administrative leadership for Preclinical Networked Medical Education (PNME)—a program that brings undergraduate medical education to rural and regional training sites. PNME delivers MD Program curriculum developed by Course Coordinators and enables approximately 40 second‑year medical students to complete their Gastroenterology & Nutrition (GI) and Reproductive Medicine & Urology (Repro) blocks in 10 rural and regional communities across Alberta. The MEPA ensures these learning experiences run smoothly by coordinating logistics, supporting learners and faculty, and maintaining strong relationships with community partners. This is a role for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, enjoys building connections across teams and communities, and is energized by supporting medical education beyond the traditional classroom. Working with the Administrator, Rural Programs and the local PNME Site Leads (70%): PNME Student Support (in communities hosting PNME students): Build the local schedule for PNME students based on the master schedule with the Administrator, Rural Programs Notify medical learners and others as required of scheduled rotations Communicate the learner schedule with the Alberta Health Services local administrators and rural clinics for the purpose of arranging learners' system accesses (i.e., EMRs) for the time of their placements in rural communities Organize and administer online learning sessions and weekly quizzes from the home site and provide all technical troubleshooting for students Consult with medical learners individually, as required, to assist them in understanding the community, practice and learning environments of rural communities of interest to them as possible rotation sites Liaise with RhPAP to arrange community housing and assist with troubleshooting issues that might arise Collaborate with Team Lead, ORRH and General Administrator to pay program invoices for housing and student mileage reimbursements, etc. Serve as the first point of contact for medical learner issues that might arise after hours, such as learner or preceptor concerns, housing, etc Administration of community-based exams from the Edmonton office in Exam.med. This will include releasing the exams, monitoring time, and ensuring that students are logged into the exam and that accommodations are met. Physician and Community Support: Notify preceptors and others as required of scheduled rotations Confirm/reconfirm preceptor availability for PNME placements Work with community members to build activities and initiatives to welcome students to the community and to help them get to know the community Recruit local clinicians for Discovery Learning, dietary module, clinical time, and exam proctoring Assist the Rural Community Engagement Coordinator in updating community profiles Assist PNME Site Leads by sending reminders to preceptors for student evaluations, clinical experience scheduling, and other tasks as requested by the local Site Lead. Help coordinate PNME schedules with other learners in the community for placements Work with community members to build activities and initiatives to welcome students to the community and to help them get to know the community Recruit local clinicians for Discovery Learning, dietary module, clinical time, and exam proctoring Assist the Rural Community Engagement Coordinator in updating community profiles Assist PNME Site Leads by sending reminders to preceptors for student evaluations, clinical experience scheduling, and other tasks as requested by the local Site Lead. Help coordinate PNME schedules with other learners in the community for clinical experiences in collaboration with the Administrator and Core Clerkship rotations. Through the Administrator, Rural Programs assist the Rural Health Professions Action Plan (RhPAP) with accommodation based on local knowledge and connections Collaborate with the Team Lead, ORRH and the General Administrator for payment of preceptor stipends Provide position backup and vacation coverage for the Administrator, Rural Programs, related to PNME administration tasks Working with the Administrator, Rural Programs in the administration of postgraduate and undergraduate rural rotations (30%): Learner Support Notify medical learners and others as required of scheduled rotations Communicate the learner schedule with the Alberta Health Services local administrators and rural clinics for the purpose of arranging learners' system accesses (i.e., EMRs) for the time of their placements in rural communities Liaise with RhPAP to arrange community housing and assist with troubleshooting issues that might arise Other duties as required Physician and Community Support: Notify preceptors and others as required of scheduled rotations Confirm/reconfirm preceptor availability for placements Assist the Rural Community Engagement Coordinator in updating community profiles Assist lead preceptors by sending reminders for student evaluations, clinical experience scheduling, and other tasks as requested by the local lead preceptor Help coordinate schedules with other learners in the community for clinical experiences in collaboration with the Administrator and Core Clerkship rotations. Through the Administrator, Rural Programs assist the Rural Health Professions Action Plan (RhPAP) with accommodation based on local knowledge and connections Collaborate with the Team Lead, ORRH and the General Administrator for payment of preceptor stipends Provide position backup and vacation coverage for the Administrator, Rural Programs Post-secondary diploma in Administration; Post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline is an asset Previous experience working in a post-secondary environment or in the health sciences field is an asset equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered Strong proficiency in MS Office and Google Apps Willingness to continue to learn and grow in computer and program knowledge Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Self-motivated with a proactive approach to all duties; must be able to work well independently with limited supervision, as well as part of a larger team Commitment to providing timely, efficient, and exceptional service Commitment to ongoing process improvement Working knowledge of the policies and procedures of the U of A is preferred Must stay informed regarding medical learner training requirements in the FoMD Working knowledge of RhPAP is an asset Application Instructions Click "Apply Now" to submit your resume and cover letter.
