TakeAction Minnesota Membership Organizer (O2) THE ORGANIZATION: TakeAction Minnesota is a power organization, building multiracial, cross-class teams of young people, parents and caregivers, artists and musicians, and tenants in key geographies around the state to win strategic campaigns for care, repair, and stability in our communities and statewide. Founded in 2006, TakeAction Minnesota exists because the challenges we face are bigger than one campaign or election cycle. TakeAction Minnesota’s work is powered by both our Organizing and Operations teams.The Organizing team includes staff in base-building, data, politics, and communications who build campaigns across legislative, administrative, electoral, and community arenas to grow grassroots power and advance long-term transformational change. The Operations team provides the financial, administrative, and organizational infrastructure that supports this work and enables our organizing teams to succeed. POSITION SUMMARY The Membership Organizer is responsible for communicating, organizing, and fundraising with new, current, and prospective members. This role is responsible for making sure members are brought along on who TakeAction is, our vision, what we’re doing, and how they can plug in and find their role - as members in specific bases or as general membership of our power organization overall. Whether in the day to day of our organizing and issue campaigns or in rapid response moments where many people are looking for ways to plug in, the Membership Organizer takes seriously their role in orienting new members and making meaning in alignment with our campaign, narrative, and fundraising goals. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Organizing and communications Email Program: Support email communications by managing the email calendar, drafting and sending approved emails, maintaining welcome and re-engagement series, and supporting campaign, organizing, and fundraising goals through effective member communications. This includes tracking performance and metrics, and testing ways to increase engagement and grow our lists. Texting Program: Implement texting communications by scheduling and sending approved messages through our short code and ThruText, tracking performance and metrics, and testing ways to increase engagement and grow our lists. Maintain our announcements-only text threads, regularly vetting members, sharing approved campaign updates, and connecting members to opportunities to take action. Website: Keep the website up-to-date for current and prospective members by writing and updating content, translating email content into blog updates, maintaining the in-the-press section, and ensuring people can easily donate, act with us, and subscribe to our texts and emails. Training and welcoming people into TakeAction teams Effectively welcome new email subscribers and donors and onboard them into our base teams. Support organizers and leaders in preparing onboarding and absorption meetings and trainings that welcome people into arcs of campaigns and rapid response moments. Grassroots and Member Donor Stewardship Implement grassroots and member fundraising strategies determined by the Executive Director or other leadership staff, including the complete cycle of donor stewardship and making direct fundraising asks through digital, phone, and events. Lead individual ticket sales plan for our annual fundraiser in coordination with organizing and communications teams. Support and equip staff and leaders to engage in fundraising campaigns. Data Support Work with the Data Manager and Organizing team to maintain accurate records of members, events, donations, and leadership development. Handle our members’ financial contributions in-line with policies and procedures using excellent member engagement skills, including updating credit cards, sending thank yous, and managing general support. Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Excellent short-form writer and editor. Strong political lens, with a clear understanding of neoliberalism and the ability to create messages and digital content polarizing against the status quo. Natural curiosity about people and the ability to build rapport across lines of difference; able to both listen deeply and engage boldly with strangers and volunteers. Demonstrated commitment to economic, racial, and gender justice, and to advancing progressive political change through building power. Willingness to offer ideas, receive feedback, adapt plans, and actively contribute to solutions. Reliable follow-through and strong communication skills. Openness to being challenged and to challenging others in service of collective growth and leadership development. Basic computer skills (e.g., Google Workspace, Signal, email, spreadsheets); interest in learning new tools and technology that support organizing. Airtable learning will be required. Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends as needs require. Some experience—paid, volunteer, or school-based—in community organizing, political campaigns, labor organizing, or other collective action efforts. Preferred Experience Experience working with Airtable, EveryAction + VAN, and mass texting tools. Experience evaluating the success and impact of mass email and text communication. Experience with the development of narrative themes and messaging. Experience with campaigning and community organizing. Experience in facilitating meetings toward key outcomes. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes, camera equipment, or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage. This role may occasionally require working outside typical business hours, including evenings or weekends, especially during peak campaign moments or events. SALARY AND BENEFITS Salary is commensurate with experience and starts at $59,829. Category: Organizer 2 Full-time employment is defined as working 64 or more hours per pay period and may include working nights and weekends. Full health and dental benefits through HealthPartners. This position is a member of the Minnesota Newspaper and Communications Guild. REPORTS TO & LOCATION This position reports directly to the Narrative & Communications Director. This position is in our Saint Paul, MN office but will be required to occasionally travel.
