Mentor Build trust. Tackle energy hardship. Help households move forward. Join us in Greater Preston and use your relationship skills to make practical, lasting change. Apply for this vacancy Position Mentor Location Flexible - home based with frequent travel across Greater Preston Salary £25,664 + excellent benefits Hours 35 hours per week (flexible working) Status Fixed term until 31 March 2027 Closing date 10 September 2026 Help households tackle energy hardship and build greater stability. The Wise Group is expanding its HEAT service across Greater Preston, supporting people who are struggling with energy costs, debt and the wider pressures that can make it difficult to keep a household stable. We’re looking for a Mentor who can build trusted relationships with people in their homes and communities, understand what is really getting in the way and help them take practical steps forward. This is a hands-on, community-based role. You’ll visit customers at home, work from local venues and attend community drop-ins and events. You’ll provide practical energy advice, but the role goes further than that. Using our Relational Mentoring approach, you’ll listen, understand someone’s wider circumstances and advocate for them when they need help navigating suppliers, services or other organisations. You’ll help people understand their options, access support and build the confidence to take greater control of their situation. You won’t be expected to have all the answers. What matters is that you are curious, persistent and able to build trust. What you’ll do Build trusted relationships with people experiencing fuel poverty, financial pressure or wider household challenges. Provide practical energy advice and help customers understand bills, usage and available support. Advocate for customers with energy suppliers and other organisations where additional help is needed. Help people navigate services and connect them to wider support where appropriate. Meet customers in their homes and communities across Greater Preston. Build relationships with local organisations and community partners to increase awareness and referrals. Manage your own caseload and diary while remaining connected to a supportive wider team. Record outcomes and customer insight so we understand not simply what we did, but the difference it made. What you’ll bring We’re looking for people who are great at building relationships. You do not need to have worked as a Mentor or in the energy sector before. You might currently work in banking, housing, customer service, financial wellbeing, community support, health, employability or another role where building trust, solving problems and helping people navigate complexity is central to what you do. You’ll be comfortable meeting people from different backgrounds and circumstances, including people experiencing financial pressure or other challenges. You’ll also bring: Excellent relationship-building and communication skills. The ability to listen without judgement and explain complicated information clearly. Confidence advocating for customers and challenging systems appropriately. A practical, solutions-focused approach. Strong organisation and the ability to manage your own workload. Confidence working independently in the community. Curiosity and persistence when an issue is not straightforward. Good digital skills and confidence using customer management systems. Knowledge of Greater Preston and its communities would be particularly valuable. Essential requirements Full driving licence and access to a vehicle for regular travel across Greater Preston. Willingness to undertake home visits and work from community locations. Home broadband to support flexible working. Willingness to complete the City & Guilds Level 3 energy qualification within your first six weeks. Full support will be provided. View the Role Profile for full details about this opportunity.
