This position is part of a job family - Level I BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for reviewing residential mortgage loan applications, credit data, income, property appraisals, and all other related documentation to evaluate and underwrite mortgage loans in accordance with regulatory requirement, secondary market investor standards, and Credit Union policy and procedure. TYPICAL DUTIES: Responsible for but not limited to the underwriting of residential loans ensuring compliance with appropriate company, and secondary market investor standards. Reviews and evaluates all information provided on the application and credit report to assess the character, capacity and creditworthiness of the applicant. Reviews and evaluates proof of income and other complex financial documents such as tax returns and financial statements to assess the applicant’s ability to repay the loan. Reviews and evaluates the accuracy of the appraisal reports and value conclusion, using technical appraisal theory adhering to the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice Examines loan documentation for accuracy and completeness Renders and communicates the credit decision to the Mortgage Department staff Works with Mortgage Department staff to secure all required documents Refers complex, problem or out-of-guideline loans to the Underwriting or Mortgage Management or Credit Committee with a recommendation. Meets periodically with MLO’s and mortgage personnel for updates and training. Assists in monitoring the credit union’s mortgage loan origination system and makes recommendations to enhance our lending criteria and underwriting processes. Performs duties with a minimum of direct supervision. Attends secondary investor or government related training to adhere with any changes to underwriting guidelines, regulatory, or appraisal requirements. Maintains a high level of professionalism at all times Flexibility to work extended hours during heavy workload high volume periods Maintain and understand compliance to ensure that work complies with GECU’s established policies, procedures and applicable regulations, to include Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering Act (AML) addressing Money Laundering and the Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT), Member Identification Program (MIP), and Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC). Performs other duties assigned or required in connection with either the general operation of the Mortgage Underwriting Area or the credit union. Level II CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS High School diploma or equivalent with five years consumer credit underwriting experience or five years mortgage underwriting experience Knowledge of federal and state lending regulations governing real estate lending Working knowledge of GSE, government-backed, and in-house mortgage program guidelines and standards (conventional, government-backed, etc.) Excellent judgment skills to make quick decisions within or outside written policy and procedures. Extensive knowledge of credit union services, including lending, new accounts and other credit union operations. Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, prioritizes work and assignments, and performs duties with minimum supervision while practicing sound lending judgment. Basic knowledge of business law and detailed knowledge of consumer credit laws and regulations. Thorough understanding of the credit union’s loan policies and procedures. Good knowledge of the market value and methods of appraising all types of collateral, Ability to analyze all types of income documents and financial statements Extensive knowledge in Automated Underwriting Systems to include but not limited to Fannie Mae’s Desk Top Underwriter, and/or Freddie Mac’s Loan Prospector. Working knowledge of the Credit Unions Mortgage Loan Origination System Good organizational and communication skills, written and oral. Commitment to teamwork. Good knowledge of the user computer systems, and software programs to include Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point programs. Requires sitting the majority of the day, reaching below shoulder level continuously, lifting up to 10 pounds, twisting and reaching above shoulder level frequently, bending, squatting, and twisting. This position requires the employee to work from home but may require onsite onboarding and training. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY Providing quality service is the primary responsibility of this person. Quality service means treating members and coworkers with respect and courtesy at all levels whether in person or by telephone as outlined in the Employee Handbook. Required Availability: Monday - Friday 8:00a.m. - 6:00p.m./Saturday 8:00a.m. - 1:00p.m. This is subject to workload and will be rotating. This application is valid for 12 months.
