The Role
Giant Group is developing n8n as a strategic automation and integration platform across the business. We're looking for an experienced n8n Engineer to accelerate delivery of production automation, system integrations and AI-augmented workflows across operational and development functions.
This is a hands-on engineering role. You'll work directly with the UK-based CTO and teams across Giant Group to design, build, test, deploy and support reliable n8n workflows that reduce manual effort, connect key platforms and introduce AI-assisted processing where it creates measurable value.
We're looking for a delivery-focused engineer who can work independently, communicate clearly across locations and time zones, and produce secure, maintainable working solutions rather than specifications alone.
Key Delivery Areas
1. Workflow Engineering
- Design, build, test and deploy production-grade n8n workflows across Giant Group's key operational areas
- Integrate platforms including Microsoft SQL Server, Azure DevOps, Zendesk, Smartsheet, Microsoft 365 and SendGrid
- Engineer workflows with robust validation, exception handling, retries, idempotency where appropriate, logging, monitoring and alerting
- Use modular, reusable workflow patterns and consistent naming/versioning conventions
- Document workflows, dependencies, credentials/configuration requirements and support procedures so internal teams can maintain them
2. AI-Augmented Process Automation
- Implement LLM-augmented workflow steps using approved AI services and APIs, including Anthropic Claude and/or OpenAI where authorised
- Build document parsing, classification, extraction, validation and routing workflows
- Integrate AI-assisted processing into operational processes such as allocations, onboarding and screening support
- Apply human review, confidence thresholds, deterministic rules and audit trails where the process or data sensitivity requires them
- Identify when conventional rules-based automation is more appropriate than an LLM-based approach
3. Integration Architecture
- Build secure integrations between Giant Group systems, including Giant Precision payroll (SQL Server/.NET), iChex/Giant Screening, messaging platforms and external APIs
- Work confidently with REST APIs, webhooks, JSON payloads, authentication, pagination, rate limits and asynchronous processing
- Design reusable integration patterns that can be extended without unnecessary rework
- Apply least-privilege access, secrets management and appropriate data-handling controls, particularly for payroll, identity and screening data
4. Worker & Contractor Communications
- Build and optimise automated notification workflows supporting contractor and worker onboarding
- Implement multi-channel communication logic across email, WhatsApp and SMS, including fallback, delivery tracking and exception handling
- Support scalable communication flows capable of handling high-volume programmes, including volumes of approximately 20,000 workers per week where required
5. Development & Operations Automation
- Build Azure DevOps automations for pull-request triage, notifications, status tracking and engineering workflow support
- Automate test-result aggregation, reporting and operational status information
- Route incidents and alerts from monitoring platforms to the appropriate teams
- Develop automation supporting operational teams, including allocations and onboarding
6. Handover & Knowledge Transfer
- Produce concise technical documentation and runbooks for each production workflow
- Transfer knowledge to Giant Group engineers and operational owners so workflows can be supported and extended internally
- Maintain clear workflow structure, naming, versioning and change records
Technical Environment
n8n (self-hosted) · Microsoft SQL Server · Azure DevOps · Microsoft .NET/C# services · Microsoft 365 (Exchange, SharePoint, Teams) · Zendesk · Smartsheet · SendGrid · Anthropic Claude API and other approved AI services · Respond.io/WhatsApp Business API · Microsoft Azure infrastructure
Connectivity – Nice-to-Have Experience (desirable, not essential — no candidate expected to have all)
Webflow · Twenty · Avaya Call · Microsoft Teams & Teams Webinars · Clay · PostHog · SE Ranking · Sendr · Microsoft Outlook · AWS Email · Google Search Console · Google Analytics · Google Workspace · Google Tag Manager · Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint) · LinkedIn Ads Manager · Meta Ads Manager · Reddit Ads · Microsoft/Bing Ads · Bing Webmaster Tools · Trumpet · Mermaid diagrams · Draw.io · Microsoft OneDrive
Essential Experience
- Demonstrable hands-on experience building and operating production n8n workflows (essential)
- Strong REST API and webhook integration skills, including OAuth 2.0, API keys, JWT and secure credential handling
- Strong JavaScript/Node.js capability for n8n expressions, Code nodes, data transformation and workflow logic
- Experience integrating SQL databases; Microsoft SQL Server experience preferred
- Practical experience designing resilient workflows with error handling, retries, logging, alerting and recovery paths
- Ability to diagnose integration failures using logs, API responses and execution data
- Ability to work independently, manage delivery against agreed priorities and communicate blockers early
- Professional written and spoken English sufficient for technical collaboration with UK-based stakeholders
Highly Desirable
- Experience building LLM-augmented n8n workflows using Anthropic, OpenAI or comparable APIs
- Experience with self-hosted n8n, including credentials, environments, deployment, upgrades and operational monitoring
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 integrations and Azure DevOps APIs
- Experience with WhatsApp Business API or comparable messaging integrations
- Experience with Zendesk and/or Smartsheet APIs
- Background in payroll, HR technology, screening, financial services or another regulated/data-sensitive environment
- Understanding of secure software delivery, source control, testing and change management
How We Work
- Delivery first: working, tested automation is the primary output
- Pragmatic engineering: choose the simplest reliable solution that meets the requirement
- Security by design: treat personal, payroll and screening data appropriately throughout the workflow lifecycle
- Observable automation: production workflows must be supportable, diagnosable and recoverable
- Documentation as part of delivery, not a post-project activity
- Clear communication across distributed teams and UK working hours
What Success Looks Like
- Production n8n workflows operating reliably across priority business processes
- Integrations implemented using reusable, maintainable patterns
- AI-augmented workflows deployed where they provide a clear operational benefit and appropriate controls are in place
- High-volume worker communication flows operating reliably where included in scope
- Monitoring, error handling and support procedures implemented for production workflows
- Clear documentation and runbooks completed
- Internal engineers able to maintain and extend delivered workflows
- A prioritised backlog of further automation opportunities for subsequent phases
Engagement & Location
Vietnam: remote only, with agreed daily overlap with the UK team. The precise contractual arrangement, payment mechanism, statutory obligations and working-location terms will be confirmed before engagement. All candidates must be able to work lawfully under the engagement arrangement applicable in Vietnam.
Security, Confidentiality & Data Protection
The role may involve access to systems processing payroll, identity, employment and screening information. The successful candidate will be required to comply with Giant Group security and data-handling policies, confidentiality obligations, access-control requirements and any restrictions applicable to the work assigned. Access to sensitive data will be limited to what is necessary for the engineer's approved scope.
