Accountable for performing standard and complex electroneurophysiology diagnostic procedures under minimum supervisory direction of lead technologist or department manager/supervisor. Prepare patients for and performs routine and portable EEGs. Perform VERs and BSERs according to AES recommended guidelines. Observe patients for any clinical manifestations of seizures or any other events and, if necessary, take appropriate steps. Maintain, calibrate and adjust equipment according to standard procedure. Conduct brain death studies. Perform routine maintenance and repair of equipment. Archive EEG reports to CD disc and maintain database. Other responsibilities: Enter patient into log book, prepare an encounter form for medical records, prepare a charge card for billing, prepare technician report for physician. Demonstrates knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families. Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the CCMC Standards. Education and/or Experience: High School diploma required with 2 years of college-level biological science preferred or 3-5 years equivalent experience in a clinical laboratory. OR Successful completion of 2 years traineeship or 2 years experience in a medical environment followed by not less than 2 years of experience in a neurophysiology laboratory. Pediatric experience preferred. License and/or Certification: Certification by the American Board of Registration of EEG Technologists preferred or board-eligible. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR in adult, child & infant is required. Trainees must achieve EEG Certification within 2 years of employment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires flexibility to adjust schedule for emergencies. Adherence to rigid, intense 2 hour schedules. Stressful because of difficulty in conducting EEG on infants and toddlers.
