Occupational Health and Safety Advisor (HQ Relocation Programme) for NATO with security clearance Keep several thousand people safe through a headquarters move — from a construction site being handed over, to the first ordinary working day in the new building. A headquarters relocation is one of the few projects where health and safety is not a compliance box but the critical path. A multinational defence organisation is moving into a new headquarters building, and this role is the safety conscience of that move: from construction completion, through the physical relocation, to the first weeks of normal operation in the new premises. It is an advisory post with real reach. You would work alongside the transition project manager, the buildings and facilities team, security and the medical teams, and you would be the person who says whether the building and the move are actually safe to proceed with. What you would be doing Provide continuous occupational health and safety advice across the relocation, mitigating risks around construction completion, staff move-in and operational start-up. Coordinate the safety aspects of the building project with the transition project manager, buildings and facilities, security and medical teams, meeting organisational, host-nation and building safety requirements. Conduct and oversee risk assessments for every transitional activity — physical moves, contractor works, staff installation — so hazards are identified, controlled and communicated. Develop and implement safe working procedures and emergency preparedness measures for the new site. Monitor compliance and give assurance on the safety readiness of the new premises: fire safety systems, evacuation routes, first-aid arrangements and ergonomics. Act as the focal point for incident prevention and response during the transition. Preserve and hand over the safety knowledge — requirements, risk registers, contractor management — so nothing is lost between project stages. Support post-occupancy evaluation, capturing lessons learned and recommending corrective and preventive measures. Prepare and deliver periodic reports and status updates. What we are looking for A solid occupational health and safety background, with real experience of construction or facilities environments rather than office policy alone. Confidence running risk assessments on live sites and holding the line with contractors. Experience of emergency preparedness, fire safety and ergonomics in a large workplace. Facility management or building construction experience is highly desirable. Clear written and spoken English, and the diplomacy to work across a lot of stakeholders. The role is based in Brussels, Belgium, with 80% of the time on site, from early September to the end of December 2026.
