Job Overview: The Oliver Wyman Forum, the independent think tank and convening arm of global management consultancy Oliver Wyman, seeks an Editorial Director to lead, manage, and help set strategy for a thriving thought leadership operation. This person should be a seasoned editorial leader and accomplished writer who can develop and place influential op-eds, shape major reports and articles, and manage a high-performing editorial team. The ideal candidate will bring the judgment, intellectual range, and storytelling instincts of a top-tier journalist or editor, combined with the strategic discipline to build a distinctive thought leadership agenda for a global professional services firm. In this role you will be both player and manager, an editorial superstar in your own right who also presides over a fast-paced content operation. You will write and edit top-quality reports and op-eds for Oliver Wyman Forum’s channels and for tier-one global publications. You will serve as a trusted editorial partner to senior Oliver Wyman Forum and Oliver Wyman leaders, helping them develop their public voice, formulate distinctive arguments, and translate complex research into persuasive, publishable opinion pieces. You will oversee the editorial strategy and portfolio for major, multi-year initiatives. You will manage a team of writers and editors, setting editorial standards, creating processes, and allocating resources to produce work with the rigor, clarity, and urgency of top-tier journalism. And you will collaborate across Oliver Wyman Forum’s research, marketing, and design teams to bring these campaigns to life, project the Forum’s insights and expertise around the world, and spark dialogue with global leaders. This is a hybrid role that requires 3 days per week in our midtown NYC office. There is no option to be fully remote. Key Responsibilities: Editorial strategy, writing, and external influence Collaborate with stakeholders across Oliver Wyman to define a strategic agenda of content topics that support the Forum’s overall positioning and objectives Identify the Forum’s strongest ideas and shape them into clear, differentiated points of view that can travel with senior business, policy, and media audiences Write, edit, and develop op-eds, essays, reports, and articles that meet the standards of top-tier journalism Collaborate with partners and subject-matter experts to turn research, client insight, and market intelligence into compelling public arguments Work with communications and media relations colleagues to identify tier-one placement options and develop pitches Identify and support Oliver Wyman Forum content partnership efforts and contribute content to increase distribution of Oliver Wyman Forum insights, analytics, and interactive tools across a wide spectrum of channels Work closely and creatively with research, consulting, marketing, design, knowledge management, events, and IT colleagues to package editorial and visual/interactive content in new and innovative ways Team leadership and editorial operations Lead, manage, and develop a team of writers and editors, ensuring the group operates with clear priorities, strong editorial discipline, high standards, and a shared sense of ambition Manage the editorial calendar and pipeline, balancing major research launches, event-driven campaigns, executive op-eds, and timely short-form commentary Create efficient editorial processes that improve speed, quality, collaboration, and accountability across stakeholders Lead thoughtful AI adoption across the editorial function, identifying and testing new applications, building team capability, and establishing appropriate quality, verification, confidentiality, and governance standards Track editorial output and placement performance across volume, tier, and reach of coverage, and use that data to sharpen the team's priorities and standards Experience Required: Minimum of 10 years’ experience (15+ preferred) as a journalist, editor, editorial leader, or senior thought leadership professional in a top-tier media, policy, financial, business, and/or professional services environment Significant experience writing, editing, or placing articles, op-eds, essays, or bylined commentary in highly respected external publications Experience working directly with CEOs, senior executives, public figures, or recognized experts to develop publishable arguments in their voice Master’s degree in journalism, business, public policy, or related field preferred Knowledge of and interest in multiple industries, disciplines, geographies, and the ways they intersect Experience leading or managing writers, editors, contributors, or cross-functional editorial teams Proven ability to work with designers, photographers, and videographers Skills and Attributes: First-class writing and editing skills; able to create compelling pieces with strong, well-supported arguments; able to take the lead in developing publishable work from initial draft through the final stages of fact-checking and copyediting, on tight deadlines Exceptional ability to identify the real argument inside complex research, sharpen the thesis, and craft a clear, timely, persuasive narrative for senior audiences Strong news instincts and deep knowledge of the types of articles, essays, and ideas that appeal to editors and the components needed to meet their standards Passion for global business issues and big ideas who can work with partners and leaders of other organizations to identify original insights and turn them into publishable materials Outstanding interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with an ability to challenge and improve ideas diplomatically, including with senior leaders, while building trust and momentum Strong project management skills, with meticulous attention to detail Enthusiasm for AI, with experience using emerging tools to improve editorial quality, accelerate research and production, strengthen collaboration, or create new forms of content and audience engagement Intellectual curiosity and comfort moving across subjects quickly, with the ability to develop informed perspectives on unfamiliar topics without losing rigor or nuance Creativity and a willingness to push boundaries Ideally, a network of thought-leaders, journalists, and editors at major publications Sharp intellect, articulate, and low-ego, with the self-confidence and high standards to inspire excellent work and build a fast, ambitious, quality-driven culture The applicable base salary range for this role is $140,000 to $230,000. The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
