Position Information : Part-time support opportunity (classification): Casual Hourly rate: $40.98 – paid on receipt of deliverables Hours: up to a maximum of 24 hours per week Reporting To: Director, Program Quality Department: Professional and Part-time Learning Campus Location: remote Vacancy status: existing vacancy Duties and Responsibilities: Durham College seeks an experienced and motivated professional who shares our commitment to quality and student success. Reporting to the Director, Program Quality, Professional and Part-time Learning, the Online Course Developer will work closely with the Curriculum Quality and Development Manager to support the creation of engaging and effective course materials for the asynchronous online course: Adult Learning. This course is a part of our Teaching and Training Adults Certificate program. Work will be done remotely . Course Description: This course focuses on improving adult learning outcomes in corporate and post-secondary settings by applying evidence-based teaching methods. Learners examine how motivation influences adult learning by considering factors such as barriers to participation, learning environments, and instructional styles. The course explores how motivation shapes decisions about technology choices, communication approaches, the design of effective learning activities and instructional techniques. Learners also develop practical communication skills to manage challenging behaviours and maintain productive learning environments in both workplace and academic contexts. Activities: Identify, design, and develop appropriate learning materials for technology-mediated learning including developing new content, curating available material, navigation layout, assessments, text and visual content, etc.; Implement the principles of Universal Design for Learning during development of materials; Maintain alignment of all teaching materials with the course learning outcomes; Ensure all materials are AODA and WCAG 2.0 compliant and follow copyright law. The ideal candidate will meet or exceed the following qualifications: Minimum of five years of recent experience in teaching and training; Holds a Master’s degree (or higher) in Education; additional certification or designations in corporate training a significant asset; At least 5 years of cumulative post-secondary teaching experience in a related field, with an emphasis on technology-enhanced teaching an asset; Demonstrated experience in the course content topic area; High technical skill using all main functions of learning management systems, particularly D2L Brightspace is an asset; Ability to effectively design and develop content to meet curricular needs for an online, asynchronous course delivery; Demonstrated skill and good judgment in selection of appropriate teaching materials; The ability to produce quality written documentation; Excellent research and critical thinking skills; Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team and participate in consultative decision making; The demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines; The organizational skills to take a project from an initial idea through delivery, working under pressure, with minimal supervision. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant educational credentials and a proven track record of relevant work/teaching/online course development experience.
