Department Overview: The Center for Community and Nonprofit Studies (CommNS) is a university-based hub for collaboration and exchange among faculty, students, and community partners which conducts teaching, research, and outreach to advance the well-being of communities, as well as the civic and nonprofit sectors. The CommNS Outreach and Engagement Team is responsible for overseeing the infrastructure and operational tasks for the CommNS. Along with creating protocols, maintaining organizational calendars, creating content for social media and updating email lists, this team also focuses on overseeing CommNS events. Our main events include a biennial event, semesterly networking events, as well as CommUniversity sessions that take place throughout the fall and spring semesters. Anticipated Start Date: September 2, 2026 Anticipated End Date (If Applicable): Remote Work Eligibility Detail: Partially Remote Anticipated Hours Per Week: Minimum: 1 Maximum: 10 Schedule: Hours are flexible, mostly independent and project-based work. Weekly or bi-weekly check-ins and workshopping meetings should be expected. Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum: Minimum: $16.00 Number of Positions: 1 Qualifications: - Student enrolled at UW-Madison, at undergraduate level. Priority is given to SoHE students - Ability to work independently and collaboratively. - Self-motivated and can take initiative - Strong writing and communication skills. - Ability to attend Zoom meetings and take detailed notes. - Ability to work collaboratively using Google Docs and Box - Ability to organize files and track work status on multiple projects. - Comfort level with social media platforms and networking events - Attention to detail and ability and practices to carefully check and copyedit written content for accuracy and professional quality Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Canva, Mailchimp preferred but not required. Applicants should have a passion for community and nonprofit studies and issues as well as diversity, equity, access, and inclusion. Position Summary/Job Duties: As an Undergraduate Outreach and Engagement Hourly, you are expected to provide support primarily to the Operations Coordinator of the CommNS as well as providing additional support as needed to other people and projects at the CommNS. The following are the main duties and responsibilities of the position along with anything else that comes up related to outreach and engagement or any new events. Event Planning and Support- Prepping and staffing the following events - Community Conference (biennial) - Chicago Friends of the CommNS (biennial) - CommUniversity Sessions (semesterly) - CommNS Connect- Networking Events (semesterly) Communication & Outreach - Create and distribute promotional material for CommNS events - Manage mailing lists and create email campaigns - Create social media content in collaboration with the team - On campus outreach and communication efforts Operations & Administration - Assist with recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new hires. Engage in succession planning - Lead affiliation processes - Assist with organization structure for CommNS files and procedure documents - Develop and refine procedural documents - Attend bi-weekly Outreach team meetings; attend monthly CommNS Team meetings - Facilitate team meetings as needed.
