Job Title: Packaging Engineer Job Description The Packaging Engineer supports new product introductions and ongoing product line maintenance for a prestige beauty portfolio, with a focus on skin care, lip, liquid, and powder foundation categories. This role manages component specifications, oversees production execution, conducts package testing, and investigates consumer complaints. The Packaging Engineer plays a key role in packaging technology transfer, ensuring accurate Bill of Material creation, thorough drawing review, effective package testing, successful line trials, precise artwork validation, and complete packaging data creation for a dynamic brand with a large number of SKUs. Responsibilities Support new product introductions by developing and implementing packaging solutions that meet technical, regulatory, and brand requirements. Maintain existing product lines by updating and managing packaging components, specifications, and documentation. Create and manage detailed component specifications to ensure quality, consistency, and manufacturability. Oversee production execution for packaging, collaborating with manufacturing and R&D teams to ensure smooth line operations. Plan and perform package testing to verify performance, durability, and compliance with internal and external standards. Investigate consumer complaints related to packaging, identify root causes, and propose corrective and preventive actions. Support packaging technology transfer efforts, ensuring all technical aspects are properly documented and executed. Create and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs) for packaging, ensuring accuracy of components, quantities, and configurations. Review packaging drawings for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with design and manufacturing requirements. Conduct line trials to validate new or modified packaging components and processes under real production conditions. Validate artwork for packaging, ensuring consistency with brand guidelines and technical constraints. Create and update packaging data in relevant systems to support traceability, compliance, and efficient operations. Collaborate closely with R&D, factory, and manufacturing teams to support integrated product development and launch. Manage multiple SKUs within a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and maintaining attention to detail. Essential Skills Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering. Internship experience as a Packaging Engineer or at least 1 year of professional experience in packaging engineering. Hands-on experience with Bills of Material (BOM) creation and management. Experience reviewing and validating packaging artwork. Foundational knowledge of packaging engineering principles for consumer products. Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including R&D, factory, and manufacturing. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical documentation and specifications. Ability to manage multiple SKUs and projects in a high-volume environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in packaging engineering for consumer products, particularly in beauty or cosmetics, is beneficial. Familiarity with FDA-regulated manufacturing environments is a plus. Comfort working with prestige beauty brands across skin care, lip, liquid, and powder foundation categories. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for investigating packaging-related issues and consumer complaints. Effective communication skills for collaborating with engineering, R&D, and production teams. Organizational skills to manage documentation, BOMs, artwork, and packaging data across 50–60 SKUs. Work Environment The role is based onsite within an integrated R&D, factory, and manufacturing facility that operates under FDA regulations. The packaging team consists of approximately 20 engineers, providing a collaborative and technically focused environment. The standard schedule requires three days onsite each week, with Tuesday and Wednesday as mandatory onsite days and the third day chosen by the employee. After an initial training period of about one month, there is flexibility to work from home on non-onsite days. The workday is 7 hours, with start times typically at 8:00 a.m. or 9:00 a.m., and from September onward the team observes half-day Fridays. The environment supports high activity and volume, with around 50–60 SKUs for the brand, offering exposure to diverse packaging challenges and technologies. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of East Windsor, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $40.00/hr.
