POSITION SUMMARY: The Litigation and Claims Paralegal is responsible for providing legal and administrative support to the legal department's litigation team in a variety of litigation and claims matters. This role involves assisting with the management of business, medical professional liability (MPL), and other disputes. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Case Intake and Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for claims and litigation matters (excluding MPL). Serve as the primary intake contact for MPL medical defense, claims and litigation Receive, review, route, and respond to Service of Process (SOPs) Conduct initial case intake by gathering facts, documents, and other relevant information. Ensure claims are being addressed in a timely manner. Draft initial summaries of new matters for attorney review and assignment. Litigation Support and Tracking: Maintain the completeness and accuracy of the corporate litigation tracker, ensuring all electronic files and supporting documents are up-to-date. Monitor and update litigation calendars and to ensure all deadlines are being met. Support comprehensive litigation case management by coordinating with outside counsel, supporting responses to discovery requests, and monitoring case milestones for MPL litigation. Coordinate with the Director of Insurance to appropriately notice carriers of all new claims and litigation, and ensure insurers remain updated on the progression of MPL matters. Follow up with outside counsel for status updates and keep the internal legal team informed of changing risks. Work with Director of Insurance to report cases to insurers and maintain insurers up-to-date on various matters. Risk Management Support: Collaborate with attorneys, carriers, and clinical leadership to gather necessary data from MPL suits for trend analysis and enterprise risk management Meet with business units periodically to assess the claims pipeline and report to the Deputy General Counsel. General Paralegal Duties: Draft and review legal documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Maintain and organize legal files, ensuring the confidentiality and security of sensitive information. Provide administrative support to the legal team as needed. Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy General Counsel. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Strong knowledge of litigation procedures and legal principles. Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare-specific litigation processes, including the handling of sensitive patient information (HIPAA compliance). Excellent organizational abilities with a keen attention to detail and accuracy. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to handle confidential material in a reliable manner. Proficiency in the use of artificial intelligence, Microsoft Office Suite and litigation support software. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive situations with poise, tact, and diplomacy. EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Legal Studies, or a related field. Paralegal certification from an accredited institution preferred. 4 years of experience as a paralegal in a corporate or legal environment. Experience in litigation, claims management, and regulatory compliance, particularly in the healthcare industry preferred.
