JOB INFORMATION: Location: Simmons Cancer Center Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Training: 3-4 weeks on-site Hybrid Eligibility: Based on successful training completion and performance. Hybrid schedule consists of one week per month on-site and the remaining weeks remote. JOB SUMMARY Works under supervision to support complex patient access operations. This position ensures that services are accessed efficiently by serving as a single point of contact for patients, physicians and employees to access clinical services while maintaining a high level of customer service to all internal and external customers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Job Duties Schedules patient care procedures accurately (procedure, exam, area or physician referral, location, time of procedure); balances exams with patient/customer time request and provider availability. Interviews patient and/or physician's office to obtain medical history and patient demographic information and documents in EPIC and electronic systems. Coordinates with physician's office and/or ancillary department regarding additional information needed to obtain pre-certification and insurance benefits. Maintains department productivity standards. Pre-registers patient cases by entering complete and accurate information in electronic medical records prior to patient's arrival. Identifies and verifies all essential information pertaining to intake, insurance verification/eligibility, and precertification on all applicable patient accounts. Revises information in computer systems as needed. Documents pertinent information and efforts in computer system based upon department documentation standards. Maintains department productivity standards. Reschedules exams at patients' or departments' requests. Initiates confirmation call back to patient to include appointment reminder, location, time, prep instructions, and/or financial responsibility. Ensures all exams are scheduled with proper clinical indicators and coding nomenclature. Counsels offices and/or patients when an "out of network" situation becomes apparent or other potential pay or technicalities arise. Coordinates with Financial Counselor to identify funding source and additional information needed to secure accurate third-party billing and/or patient financial responsibility. Coordinates as needed with other departments/ancillary areas for special needs or resources. Demonstrates ongoing competency skills including age-specific competencies, above level problem solving skills and decision-making abilities. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience Required Education High School Experience 3 years of hospital admitting/ scheduling experience or equivalent. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficient computer skills, including MS Word, Excel and types minimum of 35 wpm. Requires strong interpersonal communication and documentation skills. Ability to spell with accurate data entry skills. Possesses a true "customer service" oriented work style. Knowledge of Siemens system preferred. Good general health and stress coping ability. Ability to speak and hear to allow discussions with patients, co-workers and public. Light lifting (requires lifting 20 lbs. with frequent carrying of up to 20 lbs.) Possess near vision acuity for accurate reading on computer screens.
