Patient Partner: Guest Speaker (Volunteer, Honorarium Provided)

Have you lived through a cardiac health journey, or walked alongside someone who has? Your experience could be exactly what the next generation of healthcare professionals needs to hear. Stenberg College is inviting Patient Partners to join us this November as guest speakers, sharing their story with students who are training to work in healthcare. It's a small-time commitment with a big impact: your voice helps shape how future practitioners understand and care for the people in front of them. What is a Patient Partner? A Patient Partner is someone who has received healthcare in Canada, has supported a loved one through their healthcare journey, or has significant lived experience navigating health or social services. You're comfortable speaking openly about your experience in a group setting, and you can share your story in a way that helps others learn, whether that story was mostly positive, mostly difficult, or a mix of both. The Experiences We'd Love to Hear About We're especially looking for Patient Partners with experience related to congenital heart disease, coronary artery disease (including heart attacks), structural heart disease, genetic cardiac conditions, heart transplants, heart failure, a pacemaker or ICD, or atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias. We'd also love to hear from patients whose perspective is shaped by being part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, living with a disability, having had a mastectomy, being Indigenous, being a visible minority or racialized person, being a woman whose heart condition was misdiagnosed, being a child living with heart disease, facing language barriers in the healthcare system, or navigating care while holding religious or cultural beliefs that were, or weren't, respected along the way. Every story matters here, the good moments and the hard ones alike. What You'll Do You'll join a small group of students for a warm, conversational session: share your story, then open the floor for questions. We'll work with your schedule to find a time in November that works for you. What You'll Receive A small honorarium, in thanks for your time and your generosity in sharing something personal.
