No formal payroll qualification is strictly required — we'll provide training and support you to build specialist expertise if you don’t have it already. If you're looking for a role where you can develop a genuine specialism, take ownership of client work, and grow with a team that's building out a new service line, we'd love to hear from you. The deadline to apply is 14 September 2026. The Role As a Payroll & Finance Associate, you'll be the day-to-day owner of payroll processing for a portfolio of UK nonprofit clients - a newly created role supporting the launch of payroll as part of Impact Ops’ wider finance support offer. Working alongside the wider finance team, you’ll help establish processes, ways of working and migrating clients as it scales alongside our existing finance services. Payroll won't fill your whole week, so you'll also take on accounts payable and payment processing, plus bookkeeping for a small number of straightforward clients. You'll report to Jess (UK Finance Specialist) and work closely with the broader Impact Ops finance team. Key responsibilities include: Running end-to-end monthly UK payroll for client organizations, from data collection through to payslip distribution RTI submissions to HMRC, including FPS and EPS filings, and managing PAYE/NI liabilities Administering pension auto-enrolment, contribution uploads, and salary sacrifice arrangements Processing starters and leavers, statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP), and year-end tasks including P60s and P11Ds Acting as a first point of contact for client payroll queries and resolving them clearly and promptly Supporting US payroll processing for clients with a US presence, as the service develops Accounts payable processing, including invoice review, approval workflows, and payment runs Bookkeeping and transaction processing in Xero and QuickBooks Online for a portfolio of straightforward clients Maintaining accurate payroll records and contributing to internal process documentation About You You'll need to have: At least 2 years of experience in a payroll, finance, accounting, or bookkeeping role Exposure to UK payroll processing, or a clear interest in specializing in it Strong attention to detail and comfort working to fixed deadlines across multiple clients Confidence handling confidential information with discretion Good written communication skills and comfort working independently in a remote environment A genuine desire to have a positive impact with your career It would be a bonus if you also have: A payroll qualification : a CIPP Payroll Technician Certificate (PTC) or similar is welcome, but genuinely not required — we'll fund and support you to gain one Nonprofit sector experience : understanding of fund accounting, restricted grants, or charity compliance Cross-jurisdictional experience : exposure to US payroll or comfort working across UK and US regulatory environments Familiarity with our toolstack : Xero Payroll, BrightPay, Gusto, Deel, QuickBooks Online, Ramp, Apron, or similar A process improvement mindset : you spot inefficiencies and take initiative to address them Compensation & Logistics Salary : £40,000–£45,000 GBP, depending on experience and location Location : Fully remote; UK-based candidates preferred given the UK payroll focus, but open to candidates whose working hours overlap substantially with the UK Hours : Full-time Training : Funded payroll qualification and structured onboarding provided Application deadline : 14 September 2026 Diversity & Inclusion We're aware that factors like gender, race, and socioeconomic background can affect people's willingness to apply for roles for which they meet some but not all the suggested attributes. We'd especially like to encourage people from underrepresented backgrounds to express interest. There's no such thing as a "perfect" candidate. If you're on the fence about applying because you're unsure whether you're qualified, we'd encourage you to apply. If you require any adjustments to the application process, such as accessibility accommodations, additional preparation time, or other, please contact [email protected] . We're happy to support your needs and adjust the application process.
