Remote (Work from Home) – Greater Toronto Area

$100,000–$120,000 Base Salary + Bonus + Comprehensive Benefits


Envy Consulting Group is recruiting a Payroll Manager on behalf of a growing hospitality organization operating more than 30 locations across Ontario and Quebec, with over 2,000 employees in unionized and non-union environments. This is a fully remote leadership opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who will lead a team of six, oversee a complex multi-site payroll environment, strengthen processes and controls, and ensure employees are paid accurately and on time.


The Opportunity

Reporting to senior leadership, the Payroll Manager will lead a team of six payroll professionals and oversee payroll operations across approximately 20 Ontario locations, while supporting Quebec operations as required. The successful candidate will inherit an environment that uses a combination of payroll and workforce-management platforms, primarily Dayforce and ADP Workforce Now. They will be responsible for bringing greater consistency, structure, compliance, and accountability to the payroll function. This role is ideal for a hands-on payroll leader with experience managing teams, supporting large unionized employee populations, and interpreting collective agreements. The Payroll Manager will balance day-to-day operational leadership with opportunities to improve systems, reporting, controls, and service delivery.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, develop, and manage a team of six payroll professionals
  • Establish clear responsibilities, performance expectations, workflows, and service standards for the payroll team
  • Oversee accurate and timely payroll processing across approximately 20 Ontario locations
  • Support payroll operations for more than 2,000 unionized and non-union employees across Ontario and Quebec
  • Manage payroll activities across multiple platforms, primarily Dayforce and ADP Workforce Now
  • Interpret and administer payroll provisions contained within multiple collective agreements
  • Ensure union-related wages, premiums, overtime, seniority rules, vacation entitlements, dues, benefits, and deductions are processed accurately
  • Partner with Human Resources and Labour Relations to resolve payroll matters involving collective agreements, grievances, retroactive adjustments, and employee concerns
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, taxation requirements, collective agreements, and internal policies
  • Review payroll reconciliations, remittances, deductions, taxable benefits, vacation pay, pension contributions, union dues, and year-end reporting
  • Manage payroll audits, reporting, controls, documentation, and compliance reviews
  • Investigate and resolve complex payroll discrepancies and escalated employee inquiries
  • Partner with Human Resources, Finance, Operations, Labour Relations, and site leadership to improve payroll accuracy and communication
  • Develop consistent payroll practices and procedures across multiple locations
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce manual processes, and improve system utilization
  • Support payroll-related integrations, implementations, upgrades, and organizational initiatives
  • Prepare payroll reporting and analysis for senior leadership
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure the integrity of sensitive employee and payroll information

Qualifications

  • Significant payroll management experience within a complex, high-volume, multi-site organization
  • Demonstrated experience directly managing, coaching, and developing a payroll team
  • Experience leading a payroll team of comparable size is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing payroll for a large unionized employee population
  • Strong experience interpreting and applying multiple collective agreements
  • Knowledge of union dues, wage grids, shift premiums, overtime rules, seniority provisions, retroactive pay, pension contributions, and negotiated benefits
  • Strong working knowledge of Ontario payroll legislation and compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of Quebec payroll requirements is considered an asset
  • Hands-on experience with Dayforce and/or ADP Workforce Now
  • Experience overseeing payroll for both hourly and salaried employees
  • Demonstrated ability to improve payroll processes, controls, reporting, and system utilization
  • Strong reconciliation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, union representatives, operational leaders, Human Resources, Finance, and Labour Relations
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and strict payroll deadlines
  • Payroll Compliance Professional, Payroll Leadership Professional, or an equivalent payroll designation is strongly preferred
  • Experience within senior living, healthcare, hospitality, retail, or another multi-location environment is considered an asset

Location Requirement
