We are recruiting for a People Advisor to join our People team. We are based at our office in Whitley , Yorkshire , and work in a hybrid manner , however, we are open to flexibility on working pattern for this role. This is a 12-month fixed term contract position initially . What will you be doing in this role? As our People Advisor , you will be r esponsible for building manager capability, supporting workforce and organisational design activities, and contributing to the successful delivery of the People Plan . Operating in a dynamic environment, you will act as a trusted partner to managers, helping them navigate complex people challenges while promoting a positive, compliant, and high-performing workplace culture The Ideal candidate: You will have proven experience as a People / HR / Employee relations (ER) Advisor or similar HR generalist role from within a commercial organisation and have managed a broad range of employee relations cases through the full life cycle. You will have experience of building effective working relationships with managers, providing coaching and support to them through people issues and building their confidence and capability. You will demonstrate a proactive, can-do attitude, with strong communication skills, both verbal and written. You will have excellent organisation skills, including the ability to manage your own workload effectively and deliver to agreed timescales. The ability to build credibility is vital to success in this role. Key areas of responsibility: Act as the first point of contact for managers, providing professional, pragmatic, and commercially focused advice across the full range of employee relations matters. Support and guide managers through all employee relations processes, including but not limited to absence management, capability, performance management, disciplinary, grievance, probation, flexible working requests, workplace conflict, and organisational change. Manage a caseload of employee relations matters ranging from routine issues through to complex and high-risk cases, ensuring consistency, fairness, and legal compliance. Lead in the supporting of investigations, disciplinary hearings, grievance hearings, and appeals, preparing documentation and ensuring timely follow-up. Provide coaching and practical support to managers to build confidence and capability in handling people matters effectively and consistently. Identify recurring manager capability gaps and work with the wider People team to develop targeted training, resources, and interventions. With support from the HRBP, provide structured support to managers through organisational restructures, business transformation initiatives, and change programmes. Support consultation processes and organisational change activities, ensuring compliance with company policy and employment legislation. Support the delivery of the People Plan through the implementation of key people initiatives aligned to business objectives and cultural priorities. Take ownership of agreed project activities, ensuring actions are completed to agreed timescales and outcomes. Identify opportunities to improve people processes, increase efficiency, and enhance the employee and manager experience. Support organisational design, workforce planning, and job architecture initiatives across the business. Assist with job evaluations, job description reviews, role profiling, grading exercises, and organisation structure reviews. Liaise with external providers and specialists, including Occupational Health, legal advisors, and employee support services, as required. Key skills and experience: Proven experience working in a People Advisor, HR Advisor, Employee Relations Advisor, or similar HR generalist role. Experience managing a broad range of employee relations cases from initial advice through to resolution, including absence, capability, performance management, disciplinary, grievance, probation, flexible working, and workplace conflict. Experience coaching and supporting managers through people issues, building confidence and capability in people management. Experience supporting organisational change initiatives, restructures, consultations, and transformation programmes. Experience interpreting and applying UK employment legislation, HR policies, and best practice guidance. Experience conducting investigations and supporting formal HR processes and hearings. Experience managing multiple priorities and competing demands within a fast-paced environment. Experience supporting the delivery of HR projects and people initiatives. Good understanding of organisational change principles and consultation processes. Knowledge of effective investigation and case management techniques. Understanding of HR systems and data management requirements.
