Department Overview: The Precollege Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence (PEOPLE) started in 1999 with 66 high school students from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. PEOPLE has grown to serve over 1,100 students across three distinct units – Madison Precollege, Milwaukee Precollege, and the College Success Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Our precollege program is designed to help students become viable college candidates for UW-System institutions, with an emphasis on UW-Madison. Anticipated Start Date: August 24, 2026 Anticipated End Date (If Applicable): Remote Work Eligibility Detail: Partially Remote Anticipated Hours Per Week: Minimum: 10 Maximum: 20 Schedule: At least two days, M-TR, from 3:30pm - 6:00pm, with additional, flexible evening and weekend hours, as determined based on the College Writing Mentor's schedule. Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum: Minimum: $15.00 Number of Positions: 9 Qualifications: -Strong interest in student support, particularly for those facing obstacles to college attainment. -Passion for written communication. -Previous experience in tutoring, mentorship, and/or other forms of student support preferred. -Knowledge of UW-Madison, including but not limited to the application process, preferred. -Employment will require UW-Madison to verify your identity and employment eligibility. The employee must physically present original, unexpired documents (https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents) as evidence of identity and employment authorization. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : -Ability to support first-generation, low-income, and other historically underrepresented populations (i.e. cultural humility). -Strong writing skills, including knowledge of and comfort with the writing process (brainstorming, outlining, editing, etc.). -Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to provide support to students in times of high stress and/or crisis. Position Summary/Job Duties: -Ensure compliance with all programmatic and institutional youth protection policies. -Provide 1:1 writing support for all stage of the writing process. -Provide college application mentorship with an emphasis on UW-Madison. -Complete administrative tasks, including student tracking and communication with a variety of stakeholders, accurately and consistently. Physical Demands: Ability to use a mouse and keyboard.
