Platform Engineer

Versant Media’s Data Platforms team is the central data store across the enterprise. We unify disparate systems into a secure, well-governed, real-time data environment that powers downstream products, analytics, and content delivery experiences. We are seeking a Platform Engineer to contribute to the development of backend services and core platform components that power our data platform. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building scalable systems, improving developer workflows, and growing into broader platform ownership over time. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone early in their career who is building a strong foundation in software engineering while developing expertise in platform systems, infrastructure, and operational tooling. Responsibilities Contribute to the design, build, and maintenance of backend services and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript Support development of modular, service-oriented architecture for data ingestion, transformation, and access Help ensure platform services integrate with: data contracts and schema validation metadata, lineage, and governance systems Write clean, testable code with emphasis on unit and integration testing Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows Participate in design and code reviews, learning and applying engineering best practices Debug and troubleshoot issues in development and production environments Collaborate with engineers across platform, data, and governance teams Qualifications 3+ years of software engineering experience Proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript (or similar backend technologies) Understanding of: object-oriented design basic design patterns API and service development Experience building or contributing to backend services or distributed systems Familiarity with testing practices (unit, integration, mocking) Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and development workflows Strong willingness to learn, ask questions, and take ownership of work Comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-moving environment Nice to Have Exposure to data systems (pipelines, warehouses, or lakehouse architectures) Familiarity with observability concepts (logs, metrics, tracing) Experience working in cloud environments As part of our selection process, external candidates may be required to attend an in-person interview with a VERSANT Media employee at one of our locations prior to a hiring decision.
