The Harris International Group is seeking an experienced Portfolio Manager to work closely with the DACH Portfolio Leader and drive the continued growth of the portfolio through strategic acquisitions owning to the full transaction cycle, from sourcing new potential acquisitions through to converting them into completed transactions.
Reporting to the DACH Portfolio Leader, the Portfolio Manager will own the end-to-end process of sourcing, identifying and evaluating potential acquisition targets, building long-term relationships with qualified prospects, and converting these prospects into closed transactions, primarily within the Public Sector, Safety, Healthcare and Utilities software verticals across the DACH region.
The role covers the full transaction cycle, including proactive origination and sourcing of new opportunities, target identification, financial modelling, due diligence, transaction management, capital deployment, and relationship development.
The ideal candidate is naturally curious, commercially minded, and passionate about investing and building businesses. They will combine strong financial and analytical capabilities with proven business development, relationship-management, and operational leadership skills. Experience within one or more of the Public Sector, Safety, Healthcare or Utilities verticals is essential; transaction experience should be complemented by experience in operating and managing software businesses.
This is a remote position open to candidates based anywhere in Germany. Travel will be required.

What Your Impact Will Be
- Own the full transaction cycle - from sourcing and qualifying new opportunities through negotiating, converting, and closing transactions.
- Partner closely with the Corporate Development team to source, research, and evaluate potential acquisition targets.
- Identify new acquisition opportunities, arrange qualified meetings, and advance prospects through the M&A pipeline - from first contact through to conversion into signed transactions.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with existing and prospective acquisition targets through meetings, telephone calls, and email communication.
- Track activities, opportunities, and relevant information accurately within Salesforce CRM.
- Identify and attend relevant conferences and industry events and organize roadshows to generate leads and strengthen relationships with prospective targets.
- Manage acquisition processes together with the M&A team from initial engagement through financial modelling, due diligence, negotiation, and transaction closing.
- Develop well-supported investment theses and present recommendations to the Investment Committee.
- Clearly communicate Harris’ investment philosophy, strategy, and value proposition to prospective acquisition targets.
- Ensure that every acquisition process is managed professionally, efficiently, and with a strong focus on building trusted relationships.
- Travel within Germany and across the DACH region, and increasingly across Europe, as required.
What We Are Looking For
- Multiple years of relevant professional experience in M&A, financial due diligence, corporate development, business development, investment management, finance, general management, or a related field.
- Experience managing or supporting M&A transactions, combined with a genuine interest in businesses beyond the transaction itself.
- Operational leadership experience - for example as a General Manager or in a senior management role within an operating (software) business - as the Portfolio Manager may also be required to manage businesses in Germany, across the DACH region and, as we continue to grow, across Europe.
- Strong financial modelling, analytical, and commercial evaluation skills.
- Proven business development capabilities, including lead generation, opportunity qualification, and relationship development.
- Experience within the software industry, specifically in the Public Sector, Safety, Healthcare or Utilities verticals (required).
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to communicate confidently and effectively with C-level executives and business owners - with a strong emphasis on personal relationships built through regular in-person meetings, not only remote calls and e-mails.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple acquisition processes and projects simultaneously.
- A proactive, self-motivated approach and the ability to work effectively with a high degree of independence.
- Professional fluency in German and English. French language skills are helpful, but optional.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
