The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Min H. Kao Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science ( EECS ) to conduct research in computer vision and machine learning in support of existing and future funded research. The postdoctoral researcher will work as part of a multi-institutional research team, developing, training, and evaluating computer vision and deep learning models for advanced computer vision tasks in domains like material discovery and healthcare. This is a unique opportunity to contribute novel research while building a research portfolio in fast-growing areas of computer vision and building collaborations. Design, implement, and evaluate computer vision and deep learning algorithms for object detection, identification, tracking, and multi-modality fusion. Curate, preprocess, and manage large-scale video and image datasets used for model training and evaluation. Document methods and results; contribute to technical reports, program deliverables, and briefings for sponsors. Publish and present research findings in at leading computer vision/machine learning conferences. Contribute to the preparation of proposals, papers, and reports as needed. Mentor graduate students and interns as appropriate. Required Qualifications Education: Ph.D. in Computer Science or Computer Engineering Experience: Demonstrated research experience in computer vision and/or machine learning, including hands-on development of deep learning models using modern frameworks. Track-record of publishing at top computer vision (CVPR/ICCV/ECCV) and machine learning (ICML/ICLR/NeurIPS) conferences. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Strong programming skills in Python. Solid understanding of deep learning architectures (e.g., CNNs, transformers) applied to visual recognition and video understanding tasks. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional research team. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document and present technical work. The department has a growing enrollment of more than 1000 undergraduate and 450 graduate students across the three majors of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science. In addition, the department offers undergraduate minors in computer science, cybersecurity, datacenter technology and management, and machine learning.
