Pre-Award Scientific Project Manager Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) is a public-sector institution located in Barcelona, Spain, that promotes and develops innovative biomedical research at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital. The Competitive Research Directorate supports the scientific community at Vall d’Hebron throughout the full lifecycle of competitive projects. The Directorate encourages and supports researchers in securing competitive research funding by identifying funding opportunities, contributing to the development of high-quality proposals, and supporting the successful implementation of awarded projects. Within the Pre-Award Unit , the Project Coordination Team manages and coordinates ongoing collaborative projects and provides guidance and expertise in the establishment of new international consortia. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic candidate to join the Project Coordination Team within the Pre-Award Unit as a Scientific Project Manager . In this role, you will contribute to the development of the BIVHIR project (GPE2025-001620-P), which aims to increase VHIR’s leadership and participation in Horizon Europe projects. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the development and coordination of related international competitive project proposals, work closely with different research support units and researchers, and play a key role in strengthening VHIR’s leadership in biomedical research. Main responsibilities and duties: The Scientific Project Manager will have the following main responsibilities: Proactively identify and attract research funding opportunities. Contribute to consortium building, including the identification and selection of strategic partners. Provide tailored advice and support throughout the preparation and submission of grant proposals. Coordinate the formal acceptance and set-up of awarded projects. Promote VHIR’s participation in European projects and contribute to increasing its success rate in competitive proposals. Attend relevant events and networking activities to establish new collaborations and professional contacts. Undertake any other duties related to the role, as required, to support and contribute to the overall functioning of the Pre-Award Unit. Education and qualifications: Required: University degree in biomedical sciences or a related discipline. Fluency in English at business level, with a high standard of written English (C1 level or equivalent). Desirable: Doctoral degree in biomedical sciences or a related discipline. Fluency in Catalan and/or Spanish. Experience and knowledge: Required: Experience working in research management, such as pre-award project management, proposal preparation, and the implementation and coordination of projects, particularly Horizon Europe projects. Excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively to tight deadlines. Self-motivated, creative, proactive and results-oriented approach. Excellent teamwork and strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Desirable: Thorough knowledge of European funding programmes, with particular emphasis on Horizon Europe. Knowledge of other EU, national and international funding programmes, such as EU4Health, DIGITAL and NIH. Previous experience working in a health or biomedical research environment. Experience addressing Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) aspects and/or other cross-cutting aspects relevant to Horizon Europe projects. A track record of successful consortium management activities and/or grant applications, either as a researcher or research manager. International work experience. Labour conditions: Working hours : Full-time (37.5 hours per week). Starting date : As soon as possible. Gross annual salary : Remuneration will be determined by experience, skills and responsibilities and aligned with the Collective Agreement pay scale.
