Inova Loudoun ASC is currently hiring for a Full-Time, Pre-Surgical Assessment Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) . This role is fully remote ; however, the selected candidate must be willing and available to complete onsite training before transitioning to a remote work arrangement. Job Summary: A Pre-Surgical Assessment Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) helps prepare patients for scheduled surgical procedures by collecting clinical information, reviewing medical histories, and confirming that all pre-anesthesia and pre-operative requirements have been met. Working under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or physician, the LPN plays an important role in promoting patient safety, identifying potential concerns before surgery, and minimizing day-of-surgery delays by ensuring required documentation, testing, and patient instructions are complete. Duties & Responsibilities: Patient Assessment: Collect vital signs, height, weight, current medications, allergies, and other relevant health information Medical History Review: Conduct structured telephone or in-person assessments to review medical history, previous surgeries, chronic conditions, and prior anesthesia experiences Pre-Operative Screening: Verify that all required pre-surgical testing, such as laboratory work, electrocardiograms (EKGs), and diagnostic imaging, has been completed. Report abnormal findings or missing information to the supervising RN, physician, or anesthesia provider Patient Education: Reinforce pre-operative instructions, including fasting (NPO) requirements, medication guidelines, arrival times, and other preparation instructions to help patients arrive ready for surgery Documentation: Accurately document assessment findings, screening results, patient education, and completed testing in the electronic health record (EHR) Care Coordination: Communicate with patients, surgeons, anesthesiologists, primary care providers, and administrative staff to ensure all pre-operative requirements are satisfied before the scheduled procedure Compliance & Quality: Follow organizational policies, clinical protocols, and regulatory standards to support safe, efficient surgical care Qualifications: Two or more years as an LPN, preferably in a surgical setting Active, unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of Virginia or compact-state licensure Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Strong communication and interpersonal skills Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic computer applications Ability to follow standardized clinical protocols and work effectively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team Previous experience in pre-admission testing, perioperative services, ambulatory surgery, or acute care is often preferred but may not be required
