Empowering Africa’s tomorrow, together…one story at a time. With over 100 years of rich history and strongly positioned as a local bank with regional and international expertise, a career with our family offers the opportunity to be part of this exciting growth journey, to reset our future and shape our destiny as a proudly African group. Job Summary To develop, implement, and continuously enhance pricing strategies and profitability frameworks that maximise portfolio returns while balancing risk, funding, and operational considerations. The role is accountable for maintaining profitability models, monitoring portfolio and new business profitability, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring effective pricing governance, controls, and fair value assessments. This includes evaluating the effectiveness of pricing strategies, identifying opportunities for optimisation, and driving continuous improvements to the pricing and profitability framework. Job Description A key aspect of the role is maintaining and enhancing portfolio profitability models, ensuring that all financial, funding, and risk inputs remain current and that models comply with applicable model risk governance requirements. The incumbent is responsible for driving appropriate model parameter settings and collaborating with Finance, Treasury, and Credit Risk stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and integrity of profitability assessments. The role is accountable for monitoring and reporting profitability across both new business and the existing portfolio. This involves analysing expected returns, assessing fair value impacts, considering risk, cost structures and funding costs, producing management information for portfolio quality reviews, and identifying key drivers that influence profitability. Insights generated through these analyses support informed decision-making and help identify opportunities to improve portfolio performance. The position plays a leading role in developing and refining pricing strategies to balance profitability, competitiveness, and risk. By evaluating market trends, competitor activity, customer behaviour, risk-reward opportunities, and price elasticity, the incumbent provides recommendations on pricing changes and supports their implementation. Responsibilities include determining acceptable marginal pricing levels, supporting pricing decisions for new products, and designing, implementing, and monitoring pricing champion/challenger tests to optimise customer and portfolio outcomes. The role covers both fixed and variable rate pricing strategies across the portfolio. Strong governance and control oversight are critical to ensuring pricing practices remain effective and compliant. The role monitors pricing exceptions, evaluates the adequacy of pricing controls, identifies potential weaknesses, and drives corrective actions to strengthen the overall pricing framework and risk management environment. The role provides strategic support through involvement in new product development, product enhancements, acquisitions, and credit strategy initiatives. This includes assessing profitability impacts of product refinements, inorganic growth opportunities, and proposed credit underwriting strategy changes, while providing analytical input into business cases and strategic decisions to support sustainable growth and profitability. A key component of the role is preparing and presenting reporting to various governance forums, including Portfolio Quality Review Forums, Revenue Forums, Executive Committees, and Risk Committees. The incumbent is responsible for communicating portfolio performance, profitability trends, pricing strategy outcomes, and key recommendations to senior stakeholders. The role includes responsibility for leading and developing a high-performing team through performance management, coaching, succession planning, capability development, recruitment, talent retention, and employee engagement. The incumbent ensures alignment between team objectives and business goals while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and knowledge sharing. In addition, the role requires extensive engagement with senior stakeholders across Risk, Finance, Treasury, Sales, Product, Technology, and Executive forums. The incumbent is responsible for influencing decision-making, securing stakeholder support for pricing initiatives, and ensuring effective implementation of strategic changes to drive portfolio profitability and achieve business objectives.
