Your expertise will be crucial in supporting Agencies’ ethical, lawful and responsible use of AI. This role is central to ensuring that AI technologies are deployed in accordance with relevant obligations, government expectations and industry best practice. To excel in this role, you should have a strong background in AI ethics, strategic thinking, and risk management. You must be adept at navigating complexity and providing expert advice to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Your work will help shape the future of AI governance across the NSW public sector. Your Main Responsibilities Will Include: AI Ethics Policies and Standards: Lead the development and refinement of AI ethics policies and standards, ensuring they are aligned with global best practices and effectively implemented across all departments. Framework Design and Support: Design and support comprehensive frameworks that guide the ethical use of AI, providing clear guidelines for departments and agencies. AI Risk Management: Develop and advise on AI risk management standards, ensuring that potential risks associated with AI deployment are identified, mitigated, and managed effectively. Guidance and Advisory: Provide ongoing guidance and advisory support on AI-related issues, ensuring that all AI initiatives are compliant with ethical standards and legal requirements. Capability Development and Uplift: Identify capability and education needs across NSW public sector agencies that support safe, ethical and responsible AI use. Where gaps exist in available training or market offerings, work with relevant partners and providers to drive the development and availability of appropriate learning and capability solutions. It supports agencies to confidently adopt AI by providing guardrails, strategic advice, and capability support. The team: Defines safe AI use boundaries through clear policies, standards, and compliance expectations. Identifies and publishes high-risk AI use cases and runs simulations to uncover hidden risks. Supports agencies to trial AI through labs and expert access, enabling practical adoption. Provides strategic advice on AI capabilities and transition planning to AI-enabled operations. Drives consistent, responsible adoption of AI technologies to improve service delivery while ensuring fairness, transparency, and safety for the people of NSW.
