Job Description UW MEDICINE IT SERVICES has an outstanding job opportunity for a Principal, Database Administrator position. WORK SCHEDULE 100% FTE – 40 hours per week Day Shift – UW MEDICINE ITS SERVICES CORE HOURS ARE 08:00 – 17:00 (PST), Monday-Friday Required participation in team on call schedule DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION UW Medicine IT Services (ITS) is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Medicine Primary Care (UWMPC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM), and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission. POSITION HIGHLIGHTS 100% remote opportunity 15 days of vacation your first year – Also, 12 days of sick time, 1 personal holiday, and 11 paid holidays each year 100% matching, 100% immediately vesting 403(b) PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Provide a high level of expertise in assigned domains Strategize, develop, enhance, and govern architectural standards Manage technical portfolios, research trends, create 1-3-5-year technology roadmaps, and present recommendations to leadership Drive excellence, innovation, and efficiency with the ITS technology group Collaborate with multiple teams to standardize documentation and reference architecture Work with business owners in roadmap and technology needs Optimize the use of technologies and perform cost analysis Leverage technical expertise in impactful, enterprise-level projects Develop and deliver training across the department in area of expertise Lead large scale incident resolution and complex or impactful operational work Identify and build service management improvements Provide advice, coaching, and mentorship to team memebers on technical expertise Serve as the Manager’s delegate as requested to represent the team for vendor management, including strategic vendor meetings, architecture meetings, meetings with technical account managers, project design meetings, large scale incident resolution, and other technical leadership needs REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience 8+ years of technology experience should include: 8+ years of experience with administering systems, including 4+ years of experience administering systems that support critical operations 2+ years of experience developing and leading technical trainings for teams, and mentoring less experienced technical staff members 6+ years of experience providing advanced support for the overall health of enterprise systems and technologies 2+ years of experience primarily responsible for an enterprise technology 1+ years of managing vendor relationships, including negotiating maintenance contracts, reviewing periodic service reviews, and coordinating escalations 1+ years of implementing and improving processes Active member in local technology user groups and/or other professional organizations related to area of expertise Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining detailed documentation, including standard operating procedures, system diagrams, and any other technical documentation 1+ years of managing technical requirements of an enterprise system 6+ years of progressively responsible systems administration, analysis, and programming experience on a broad range of platforms 5+ years of relational database systems administration and programming experience in a distributed networked client/server environment Expert experience in relational database systems (Microsoft SQL Server strongly preferred) and other technologies Expert experience working with teams in the development and support of applications Exemplary communication skills and ability to work with personnel of various levels of technical background ABOUT UW MEDICINE – WHERE YOUR IMPACT GOES FURTHER UW Medicine is Washington’s only health system that includes a top-rated medical school and an internationally recognized research center.
