What's the role?
ETA is a Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) engineering consultancy delivering the design and specification of complex building services systems across a diverse portfolio of projects. Many schemes are developed to achieve ambitious sustainability objectives, including BREEAM certification and compliance with The London Plan.
The Principal Electrical Engineer will play a key role in the design and delivery of electrical infrastructure projects, undertaking technical assessments, engineering calculations, and the preparation of design reports and supporting documentation. The role will involve the development and presentation of technical solutions for the replacement and upgrade of critical electrical infrastructure assets, as well as the delivery of new electrical systems.
A significant proportion of ETA's work is undertaken within live healthcare environments, requiring the design and coordination of critical electrical infrastructure including MV/LV transformers, switchgear, standby generation systems, and associated electrical distribution networks. .
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills, with proven experience in collaborating with NHS Trust representatives, project managers, contractors, and multidisciplinary design teams. They will work closely with mechanical, electrical, public health, sustainability, and specialist engineering disciplines to develop coordinated, resilient, and compliant engineering solutions that support the operational requirements of critical healthcare facilities.
Working Conditions - Hybrid working (typical 3 days office , 2 days at home ) 37.5 contractual hours per week Monday - Friday.
Key Responsibilities
- Production of electrical system designs and specifications, including producing design calculations and review of electrical system designs and specifications
- Review of electrical system designs and specifications
- Production of technical reports
- Undertake site surveys
- Acting as a project leader on projects, Assist Associate Directors in the review and control of project budgets and lead on performance of projects.
- Coordination with external design teams; architectural, structural, PQS, CDM, etc and internal team; CAD, Revit, electrical, public health, sustainability disciplines.
- Inputting into practice improvements in work methods and delivery
- Collaborating with Associate Directors and Directors in identifying and implementing new work practices and innovation.
- Ability to lead on multiple projects consecutively
- Attending meetings and delivering client presentations.
- Raising/promoting the level of technical excellence within the team.
- Monitoring project costs and time
- Maintaining project deliverables
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in healthcare electrical infrastructure projects, particularly within operational hospital environments, is highly desirable. However, experience in alternative critical environments will be considered.
- HNC/Degree qualification - Electrical or building services (Desirable but not essential experience considered)
- Working towards Chartership.
- Professional membership of relevant institute (CIBSE, IET, IMechE, IHEEM)
- Experience in Electrical Engineering services systems designs across a range of building types and in particular health buildings experience. (Healthcare experience desirable but not essential)
- Demonstratable experience of design in building services,
- Knowledge of British standards, building regulations documents
- Client relationship building skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, Hevacomp, Amtech, Excel, MS Project etc
- Knowledge of HTMs would also be of benefit
