About PharmaForce PharmaForce is a leading provider of innovative pharmacy solutions, specializing in 340B Third Party Administration (TPA). We leverage cutting-edge technology and industry expertise to help healthcare providers, payers, and patients navigate the complex landscape of pharmacy management. Our mission is to enhance patient care and access to medications by optimizing pharmacy programs across the spectrum. At PharmaForce, we foster a culture of innovation and collaboration, continuously striving to develop solutions that make healthcare more accessible and affordable for all. Position Overview PharmaForce is expanding its clinical data capabilities by building direct FHIR-based integrations with hospital electronic health record (EHR) systems, starting with Oracle Health (Cerner) and Epic. The Principal Engineer, FHIR Interoperability will lead the architecture, design, and hands-on engineering of this integration, from initial EHR vendor registration through production operation, and will play a central role in shaping PharmaForce's broader interoperability and clinical data strategy. This is a senior technical leadership position with significant latitude to set architectural direction, and the scope of this role is expected to grow as PharmaForce's interoperability footprint expands across additional health systems and data types. Key Responsibilities Lead the end-to-end architecture and engineering of PharmaForce's FHIR-based clinical data integration with hospital EHR systems (Oracle Health/Cerner, Epic), from vendor registration and sandbox development through production deployment and ongoing operation. Own key technical decisions across the integration — backend authentication, bulk data export strategy, incremental synchronization, and the clinical data landing/storage layer — balancing near-term delivery against long-term scalability as PharmaForce onboards additional health systems. Design and build SMART on FHIR-based capabilities, including future functionality embedded directly within hospital EHR platforms. Partner closely with data engineering to model and normalize clinical FHIR data within PharmaForce's data warehouse, enabling downstream 340B, Contract Pharmacy, and RCM analytics. Contribute engineering effort to PharmaForce's broader Azure-based ETL platform, including tooling for file traceability, visibility, alerting, and health-check capabilities that improve customer support and enable the team to identify and resolve issues proactively. Provide technical direction and mentorship to engineers working on interoperability and integration efforts, with the scope of this role expected to expand — potentially including formal people leadership — as PharmaForce's interoperability team grows. Partner with Security and Compliance to ensure all integrations meet HIPAA requirements and the security expectations of EHR vendor partners. Qualifications Required 8+ years of experience in healthcare interoperability engineering, including hands-on work with clinical data exchange standards. 5+ years of hands-on experience with FHIR and SMART on FHIR, including direct experience with major EHR vendor platforms (Epic and/or Oracle Health/Cerner). Demonstrated experience designing and implementing FHIR-based integrations, including backend service authentication, bulk data export, and FHIR resource modeling. Working knowledge of HL7 messaging standards (e.g., ADT, SIU) in a healthcare data exchange context. Strong software engineering background, with proficiency in .NET/C# (or a comparable modern language) and cloud platforms (Azure preferred). Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex technical initiatives, including setting architectural direction and providing technical guidance to other engineers. Preferred (Not Required) Experience registering and integrating through EHR vendor developer programs (e.g., Oracle Health Developer Program, Epic Connection Hub/Backend Services). Familiarity with 340B programs, pharmacy claims, or healthcare revenue cycle management. Experience with modern data platforms and transformation tooling (e.g., Databricks, dbt, Azure Cosmos DB). Experience mentoring engineers or serving in a technical leadership capacity, with interest in growing into formal people leadership.
