Principal Test Engineer

Performs, documents, and leads large test teams in executing integration, regression, functional, and digital accessibility testing of highly complex and moderately integrated systems to ensure compliance with system requirements, use cases, and accessibility standards by following Navy Federal test practices and policies and utilizing approved testing tools. Writes complex test plans using expert level technical knowledge related to testing and accessibility conformance evaluation. Conducts the analysis of functional, technical, and accessibility requirements, and creates and edits test cases for new or modified systems. Detects and documents defects/bugs identified during testing and recommends prioritization for solutioning of defects. Acts as mentor for peers on moderately complex testing processes and accessibility testing methodologies. Under moderate guidance creates, runs, and troubleshoots simple test automation scripts for systems under test. Lead accessibility testing efforts across products and platforms, including selection and use of accessibility testing tools, assistive technologies, and conformance evaluation methodologies. Create highly complex Test Plan documents utilizing Navy Federal Test Standards and templates. Partner with design, development, product, and accessibility teams to establish scalable accessibility testing practices throughout the product development lifecycle. Perform highly complex analysis and interpret results, present recommendations, potential alternatives, risks, and downstream impacts. Ensure clear, concise, and expert communication including progress reports, test case or plan documentation, root-cause defect reporting, risks, blockers, etc., to facilitate accurate understanding of testing activities. Coordinate and perform testing of complex systems during the System Integration Testing phase, including manual and automated accessibility testing activities.. Participate in highly complex System Development Life Cycles activities utilizing SAFe Agile best practices and methodologies. Participate in sizing and estimation for highly complex projects and changes. Serve as subject matter expert and mentor to peers on accessibility standards, testing methodologies, assistive technologies, and inclusive user experiences. Create and update complex manual test cases within the approved and appropriate test tool(s). Build complex manual test cases with automation in mind by following established test management standards and best practices. Execute existing highly complex automated test scripts. Update highly complex automation test cases while trouble shooting errors. Create automation parameterization files using NFCU's UFT framework; update as needed when trouble shooting errors. Utilize xpath tools to troubleshoot web element issues. Independently develop test automation using NFCU's DevSecOps Test Automation Low Code Framework, ensuring adherence to established policies and best practices; troubleshoot more complex errors within automation scripts. Develop test automation that meets audit traceability requirements by integrating required test artifacts into Azure DevOps and complying with DevSecOps CI/CD standards. Create all required documentation (test results, knowledge articles, sign-off, etc.) following Navy Federal Testing Standards, tools and templates. Document highly complex defects/bug and follow established defect/bug lifecycle procedures and policies. Perform advanced root cause analysis for identified defects/bugs, including accessibility defects and compliance issues, provide detailed documentation and insights to developers for solutioning Collaborate with peers, Developers, business partners and all other stakeholders to ensure business needs are communicated, documented, and satisfied. Perform analysis related to changes in policies, procedures, and products; determine downstream impacts on testing. Analyze and identify complex process, data or technology improvement opportunities, provide recommendations to include risk considerations and downstream impacts. Provide recommendations related to testing and accessibility practices to facilitate process optimization and support enterprise accessibility objectives. Contribute to the evolution of Navy Federal's enterprise accessibility strategy, governance models, testing standards, and operational practices. Participate in project and product team meetings, collaborating and contributing while maintaining line of sight on goals and objectives. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, a related field or the equivalent combination of education, training or experience 7-10 years of experience in technology testing Subject matter expert within business area/specialization with understanding of interrelationships of different disciplines Expert technical skills working with various software programs Expert knowledge of testing tools, including digital accessibility testing and evaluation platforms. Expert knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and digital accessibility conformance evaluation methodologies. Extensive experience using assistive technologies including screen readers, screen magnification, speech recognition, and keyboard-only navigation techniques. Extensive experience leading accessibility testing efforts and mentoring testers on accessibility standards, defect identification, and remediation validation. Extensive experience partnering with designers, developers, and product teams to integrate accessibility testing throughout the product development lifecycle. Experience evaluating accessibility within web, mobile, and enterprise digital platforms. Experience developing scalable accessibility testing processes, standards, governance models, or enterprise accessibility programs.
