At the City of Stirling, we’re proud to be WA’s largest local government, serving over 243,000 residents with more than 200 community‑focused services. With a workforce of 1,600, we’re committed to building an inclusive, capable and future‑ready organisation. We invest in our people, embrace innovation, and offer a workplace where flexibility, wellbeing and growth are more than just words – they’re how we work. Why You’ll Love This Role The City is looking for a privacy and information governance professional to help shape the next stage of its privacy, responsible information sharing and information governance maturity under the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024. With the City’s PRIS readiness foundations in place, this role offers the opportunity to apply your specialist expertise in a practical, meaningful and organisation-wide way. Working collaboratively with the Service Lead Data and Information Management, the Information Management Lead, the PRIS Project Team and business areas across the City, you will help turn privacy and information governance requirements into clear, workable practices that support staff, strengthen decision-making and build community trust. This is a role for someone who enjoys combining technical privacy knowledge with practical implementation, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement. You will have the opportunity to influence how the City embeds privacy-by-design, responsible information sharing, information classification and strong information handling practices across a large and diverse local government organisation. This is more than a compliance role. It is an opportunity to help guide how the City manages privacy, enables responsible information sharing, protects personal information and builds trust with the community it serves. The position reports to the Service Lead Data and Information Management. What You’ll Be Doing Help embed practical privacy, responsible information sharing and information governance practices across the City. Provide trusted, clear and practical advice to staff, leaders and project teams on privacy, information sharing and personal information handling. Support the continued implementation and maturity of the City’s PRIS activities, including policies, procedures, registers, guidance and evidence of compliance. Coordinate Privacy Impact Assessments and support business areas to identify, assess and manage privacy risks early. Assist with privacy enquiries, complaints, access or correction requests, incidents and data breach response processes. Support information governance initiatives, including information classification, Data Loss Prevention, Microsoft Purview, data catalogue and reporting capabilities. Develop and deliver training, awareness activities and practical guidance that build privacy confidence and capability across the organisation. Position Description What You’ll Bring We’re looking for someone who is confident working with privacy, information governance or compliance requirements, and who can translate complex obligations into practical advice that people can understand and use. You’ll bring sound judgement, strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across a large and diverse organisation. Experience in privacy, information governance, compliance, risk, information management, data protection, FOI or a related discipline. Sound understanding of privacy principles, responsible information sharing, information governance and public sector accountability requirements. Ability to interpret legislation, policy and governance requirements and translate them into practical guidance, tools and advice. Experience developing or implementing privacy policies, procedures, collection notices, guidance material, templates or compliance documentation. Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to provide trusted advice and influence practical outcomes across business areas. Strong research, analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess information handling risks and recommend proportionate solutions. Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear guidance, reports, procedures, training material and briefings. Experience with Privacy Impact Assessments, privacy registers, information classification, Data Loss Prevention, Microsoft Purview, data catalogue or similar information protection capabilities will be highly regarded. Relevant qualifications or certifications in privacy, law, information governance, records management, risk, compliance or data governance will be highly regarded.
