SAP UX / User Experience Designer
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced SAP UX / User Experience Designer to support a major SAP initiative at Consumers Energy. This role will focus on understanding and advocating for user needs while helping create intuitive, consistent, and accessible experiences across SAP applications and related digital platforms.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in human-centered design, UX research, journey mapping, usability testing, interaction design, and cross-functional collaboration. Working knowledge of SAP is preferred.
This position will work closely with the internal Consumers Energy development team as well as external implementation partners and vendors to ensure solutions meet user needs and support successful adoption.
Work Schedule & Location
This is a hybrid position based at One Energy Plaza (OEP) in Jackson, Michigan.
- Tuesday – Thursday: Onsite in Jackson at One Energy Plaza
- Monday & Friday: Remote, most weeks
- Occasional schedule adjustments may be required based on business or project needs.
Key SAP Responsibilities
- Support and maintain SAP role personas that accurately reflect users' goals, responsibilities, workflows, and pain points.
- Advocate for user needs during cross-functional discussions, solution development, and decision-making.
- Apply UX and human-centered design best practices to SAP solutions.
- Help ensure consistent user experiences and smooth transitions between SAP applications and related systems.
- Collaborate closely with the internal Consumers Energy development team.
- Partner with external SAP implementation vendors and other technology partners.
- Translate user needs and business requirements into practical UX strategies and solutions.
- Support SAP initiative activities focused on usability, adoption, and overall user experience.
Working knowledge of SAP is preferred.
Core UX Responsibilities
Journey Mapping
- Translate research insights into journey maps, task flows, personas, and design strategies.
- Identify user pain points, opportunities, and gaps across end-to-end experiences.
- Use journey mapping to help guide product and solution direction.
User Research
- Advocate for the end user throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Conduct user research and define persona-specific requirements.
- Perform task analysis and develop detailed use cases.
- Gather and synthesize qualitative and quantitative feedback to inform design decisions.
Usability Testing
- Plan and conduct usability analysis and user testing.
- Validate ease of use and effectiveness across different user groups and customer segments.
- Identify usability issues and recommend actionable improvements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with engineering, development, business, and technology teams to align on user experience objectives.
- Communicate UX recommendations and design decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Work across multiple teams to drive consistency, usability, and user adoption.
Experience Iteration
- Analyze product usage data, user feedback, and research findings.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing experiences.
- Continuously iterate designs and experiences based on evidence and user needs.
Accessibility
- Advocate for accessibility and inclusive design throughout the development process.
- Incorporate accessibility considerations into UX and design decisions.
- Apply familiarity with WCAG and inclusive design methodologies.
UX Pattern Documentation
- Define and document UX patterns, behavioral patterns, interaction models, and design standards.
- Promote consistency across applications and user experiences.
- Maintain documentation that can be leveraged by development and design teams.
General Support
- Provide ongoing UX support throughout the SAP initiative and product lifecycle.
- Participate in design reviews, workshops, planning sessions, and stakeholder meetings.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in UX Design, User Experience, Human-Centered Design, Interaction Design, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and usability best practices.
- Experience with user research, personas, journey mapping, task flows, and use cases.
- Experience conducting usability testing and translating findings into design improvements.
- Strong interaction design skills, including the ability to define user flows, interaction patterns, and end-to-end product experiences.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
- Strong problem-framing and structured problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality user experiences.
- Ability to navigate complex, multi-team environments and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards, WCAG, and inclusive design methodologies.
- Strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
- Ability and willingness to continuously learn new technologies, tools, and digital trends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge or experience with SAP.
- Experience supporting an SAP implementation, transformation, or modernization initiative.
- Experience working with SAP role personas or enterprise application personas.
- Experience working with internal development teams and external implementation vendors.
- Experience in enterprise UX or complex business application environments.
- Familiarity with enterprise design systems and UX pattern libraries.
- Experience using data and analytics to inform UX decisions.
- Experience in large, complex organizations with multiple stakeholder groups.
