Product Designer (Collectibles)
Our client is seeking a Product Designer with a passion for collectibles, pop culture, gaming, anime, and fandom-driven products. In this role, you'll help bring innovative collectible concepts to life, designing products from initial ideation through production. Projects may include vinyl figures, designer toys, plush, accessories, and other collectible formats that create memorable fan experiences. This is an exciting opportunity for a designer who understands collector culture and is energized by creating products that inspire emotional connection, excitement, and demand among fans.
The Basics
- Duration: 3-month contract with potential for extension
- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Location: Remote
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of product design experience within collectibles, toys, consumer products, licensing, lifestyle accessories, or related industries
- Experience designing physical consumer products from concept through manufacturing
- Strong 3D design skills with proficiency in CAD, 3D modeling, sculpting software, or similar tools
- Portfolio demonstrating both concept development and finished 3D product execution
- Understanding of materials, finishes, manufacturing processes, and production constraints
- Experience collaborating with development, sourcing, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams
- Strong visual communication, presentation, and storytelling abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing vinyl figures, designer toys, art toys, blind box collectibles, or plush products
- Background creating fandom, gaming, anime, entertainment, or pop culture-based products
- Character design and character development experience
- Experience working with licensed brands
- Familiarity with rapid prototyping and 3D printing workflows
- Understanding of collector-driven products, including limited editions, chase items, and collectible programs
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop collectible products from concept through commercialization
- Create sketches, renderings, mood boards, prototypes, presentations, and storytelling assets
- Develop character-driven concepts and product series inspired by fandoms, gaming, entertainment, anime, and emerging trends
- Translate consumer insights and cultural trends into innovative collectible products
- Partner with sourcing, development, manufacturing, and licensing teams throughout the product lifecycle
- Collaborate with factory partners on materials, engineering, feasibility, and production execution
- Explore opportunities across collectibles, figures, toys, plush, accessories, and new product categories
- Balance creative innovation with business objectives and market opportunities
