Product Developer

Fable

Is this job info correct?

About Fable:

We craft timeless homeware that's made to last and meant to be lived with. Through thoughtful design, sustainable materials, and ethical craftsmanship, we bring better to every home — one piece, one ritual, one story at a time.

We're growing into new categories, new materials, and new manufacturing capabilities. Which is where you come in.

The Role:

We're looking for a Product Developer to take our newest collections from first sketch to finished piece.

This is a hands-on, cross-disciplinary role. In a single week you might be reviewing a glaze sample for a dinner plate, weighing GSM options on textiles, and pressure-testing a rug construction with a mill partner. You'll work across dinnerware, rugs, home decor, bedding, textiles, and bath — and help stand up a new product category we're bringing into manufacturing for the first time.

You'll sit at the point where design intent meets what's actually possible: materials, factories, costs, timelines, quality. The best people in this role are equally comfortable talking about proportion and about tolerances.

What You'll Do:

  • Own product development end to end — concept, tech packs, sampling, testing, and handoff to production
  • Translate design direction into clear, buildable specs that factories can execute without guesswork
  • Source and evaluate materials with an eye on durability, sustainability, and cost
  • Manage sampling cycles with overseas and domestic manufacturing partners — reviewing, redlining, and pushing until it's right
  • Build and maintain development calendars so collections land on time and on plan
  • Partner with design, sourcing, merchandising, and QA to keep everyone working from the same source of truth
  • Help establish development standards for our newest product category, including tooling, testing protocols, and vendor onboarding
  • Solve the problems that show up between the rendering and the reality — because they always do

What You Bring:

  • 3–5+ years in product development, ideally across home, soft goods, or lifestyle categories
  • Fluency in tech packs, BOMs, spec sheets, and the language factories actually use
  • Real experience managing manufacturing partners through sampling and production
  • Working knowledge of materials across hard goods and soft goods — ceramics, glass, cotton, wool, linen, and beyond
  • A sharp eye for detail and the judgment to know which details matter
  • Comfort with ambiguity, shifting priorities, and building process where none exists yet
  • Strong project management instincts and clear, direct communication

Nice to have: experience launching a new product category from scratch, sustainable materials or certifications knowledge (OEKO-TEX, GOTS, FSC), factory travel experience, or a background in industrial or textile design.

Why Fable:

We're a small, senior team that moves quickly and cares deeply about the work. You'll have real ownership over what we make and how we make it — not just a lane, but a say.

Everything we make is meant to last. That includes the way we build things internally.

Compensation and perks:

  • A competitive salary
  • A monthly $200 allotment for you to spend on personal wellness.
  • Fully remote team. Work wherever you want in the world. All you need is wifi and a laptop.
  • Top-tier benefits and flexible vacation policy.
  • Complimentary dinnerware.
