Product Development Manager
Premium DTC arts and crafts brand. Remote, anywhere in the US. $120,000 to $140,000 plus bonus.
The premium leader in a category that has quietly become one of the fastest growing in arts and crafts. Around $50M in revenue and heading toward nine figures, with roughly 90 percent of that direct to consumer. Their customers sit in a 50,000 member VIP community that is active every single day and tells the brand what to make next.
Their core product line is solved and running. This role owns everything else.
That means the formats the category has barely seen yet: 3D figures, illuminated display pieces, advent calendars, magnets, coasters, sticker books and gifting. At least one new product type every quarter. Sixty to seventy items in flight at any time, over 300 shipping a year, all through a single vertically integrated factory partner in China.
You report directly to the co-founder who runs creative and product development herself. No committee, no roadmap by spreadsheet, no waiting for someone else to decide.
The honest part
This is a real operating job, not a strategy seat. The brand is moving fast into new materials and new formats, which means new ways for things to go wrong, and the premium standard has to be enforced rather than assumed. Quality assurance currently sits after production rather than during development, and whoever takes this seat has a clear run at building that properly. The factory can source almost anything but cannot always hit the price the product needs. Closing that gap, week after week, is a good part of this job.
What you own
What you do not own
Two full time graphic designers plus illustrators handle artwork, so you brief and direct rather than make. A licensing assistant runs submissions on a deep portfolio of major studio and entertainment licences. Product testing and compliance is coordinated by their overseas team. A separate product development manager covers the wholesale and retail side. Brand and marketing sit elsewhere.
Who this suits
Someone who has developed physical product in crafts, toys, collectibles or giftware, and who has personally been the one on the phone to the factory rather than a layer above it. Enough design fluency to mock an idea up and direct a factory visually. Someone who looks outside the category for inspiration rather than at direct competitors, and who makes things themselves, because the customer can spend forty hours on a single piece and you need to understand why.
You will be on calls with China most weekday evenings and out there once or twice a year. If that does not appeal, this is not the job.
Practical
Fully remote in the US. Asana, Slack and WeChat. Fully employer-paid medical, dental and vision, life insurance, 401k, flexible time off.
